This is my first post to the list and I am also new to research in Middlesex. I would appreciate any advice on books, resources, libraries etc. I am in Burlington Co. but find few if any Middlesex references in our libraries. I would especially be interested in early marriage records. My specific line of interest is the COMBS/COOMBS family. My gr gr grandfather was Harrison Coombs born in NJ in 1816, died in Burlington Twp. Burlington Co. in 1869. I can document him from 1840 on. I have been researching the family of Abner COMBS as he seems the most likely father--am looking for anything to prove or disprove a connection to my Harrison. Here is what I know--Abner COMBS born 1780, father listed as James COMBS. Abner may have been married twice--one son's death cert lists his mother as Mary, the others list her as Matilda. Proven children--James born abt 1821-1823 in Hightstown, twins Ezekiel and Lydia born July 1825, and Sarah Ann born July 20, 1836. I have found Abner listed in tax lists 1819 and other years in Middlesex, by 1830 they are in Columbus, Burl Co. In 1840 in Mercer, and his wife in church records in Burlington Co by 1842. Abner died in Burlington in 1848. I have primarily been researching in Burlington and Monmouth Co. as there are many Combs references there. Then I found the tax lists and James' death cert, Hightstown was Middlesex in 1821. I would be interested in any info on Abner COMBS or James COMBS or their wives. I am wondering if I have had such bad luck in finding this family because I am researching the wrong county! Any help appreciated. Thank you. Kathy
