John Essley was b. 1770 in Pequannock Morris, NJ and d. 1 Apr 1834 in Kelaware IN. He married Martha Hurd b. 1770 in Pequannock, Morris, NJ. Their children were: Phillip b.1804 in Micholasville, Jassamine, KY, d. 1853 Kanesville, Pottawattamie IA, (Married Elizabeth Johns in 1832), Elizabeth b. 1792, William b.1794, Lydia b.1798, Rebecca b.1800, Francis Asbury b. 1806, John b. 1808, Jesse b. 1810, Patsy b. 1812, Cassie b. 1814, and Elisha b. 1815. Phillip and Elizabeth 8 children, Benjamin b. 1840 (married Isabella M. Manners) Martha Mary Jane b. 1824, William J. b. 1828, John Alexander b. 1831, Barton b. 1834, Emelia Ann b. 1835, Milton Miller b. 1837, and Drusilla b. 1844. Benjamin (my g grandfather) and Isabella had 8 children: Lucinda Elzina, (my grandmother)b. 1867 in Waterloo IA, Elizabeth b. 1862, Thomas b. 1866, Robert b. 1869, Anna b. 1871, Ada b. 1873 Lilly May b. 1817, and Jacob b. 1878.
