I ran across some Rapalje information in a genealogy of the Lefferts family. Mary Ann Rapalje (born, March 17, 1803) daughter of Richard Rapalje and Alice Conover of New Brunswick, married Nicholas R. Cowenhoven Lefferts in 1822. In 1835, she "became a communicant of the RD church of New Brunswick"; Her daughter, Sarah Lefferts(B.Feb 18, 1823) "joined the RD Church of New Brunswick August 31, 1855 on certificate" and another daughter, Maria Beson Lefferts, was baptised in the RD Church of New Brunswick. Can anyone tell me anything about this church and explain the terminology of communicant and joined on certificate as opposed to being baptised? Does anyone know if this church still exists and if their records can be researched? It seems that the Mormons have microfilmed the The Third Protestant Dutch Reformed Church of New Brunswick but only from 1851-1901. I am interested in records from the late 18th and early 19th century.
