Benjamin and William Reed were brothers of my gg grandfather John Reed. They were all blacksmiths. Benjamin died in 1880, John in 1890. Benjamin also had a son named Benjamin so the 1899-1900 directory info must be of him. The photo I have is of the Reed brothers in front of the shop. It is a copy sent from a distant relative. The other picture is in the book about New Brunswick. That picture is c. 1890 and there is no one standing by it. In fact it looks like it may have been closed up at that point. I can see about scanning it if you'd like to see even though it is not the Farley shop. Sue Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: webman217 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.middlesex/4080.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: According to the New Brunswick City Directory from 1865-66, it lists a Benjamin and William Reed at 110 Burnet Street. From my notes, I see that Benjamin was still in operation in the 1890 NB City Directory at 128 Burnet. I also see him in the 1899-1900 Directory. The Farley Blacksmith Shop was located at 69 Burnet. In 1865-66 there was also a William Browne located at 27 Burnet. New Brunswick had MANY blacksmiths between the mid 19th and early 20th centuries. The photo you have, is that from the book or one from your family? I would be interested in seeing a scan of it. I know there is a photo of the Farley Blacksmith Shop with the three brothers who owned it standing outside, taken in the 1960s. I wonder if that's the same one or one similar? If it is permissable, it may be suitable for our display at the East Jersey Olde Towne Village. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: skuderka Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.middlesex/19.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi David, Your post is from quite awhile ago so you may have this information by now but I found it interesting. The New Brunswick Public Library has a listing online of Willow Grove Cemetery. I came across this information yesterday and was interested in the Stalee family. My great grandfather born in 1859 New Brunswick was Walton Stalee Reed. As I searched through the list, I found a Walton S. Stalee listed. There are others listed for plot 72- Jane Stalee, Walton S. Gertrude M. Nevius Stalee, Woodbury H. Stalee, Emiline Stalee Tappen, George F. Stalee, Willie W. Stalee. Ann Bell Stalee wife of William L. Stalee is also there. She died July 16, 1866 aged 62 yrs 9m 19 days. I have not been able to connect the Stalee family with my Reed family, but I thought it very interesting to have that name in my family. Walton S.'s father was Walton E. Stalee and he was a blacksmith according to 1860 census. My gggrandfather John Reed was also a blacksmith and named his first son Walton Stalee. Wonder if they were friends? Hope you receive this information. Good Luck! Sue Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His brother William owned the shop and according to the book Images of America New Brunswick, the shop was also located on Burnet Street. It says he opened it in the 1850s. I also have a picture of three men standing outside the blacksmith shop. John Reed died in 1890, I am not sure about William. Do you think it could have been the same blacksmith shop? Or were there several shops along the same road? Just curious-Thanks for your help! Sue Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: xokidreamzx1 Surnames: Conover, Washington, Wilkerson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.middlesex/4093/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for any information on one of the Conover families of New Brunswick. This is an African American family with some possible Hispanic ties. In the 1930s census, the family appears as John H. Conover (Head), Anna (Wife), John H. Jr (son), Richard F. (son), and Franklin (son). A short time later during the 1930s, my grandfather Samuel E. Conover would be born as the next son of John H. and Anna. I believe he may have some sisters also but I am not sure. I think I can trace John H. further back but without any family to verify my findings, I cannot be sure it is him. Does anyone know anything about the Conover family, specifically Samuel E. Conover? He married a woman named Freddie Lee (Washington or Wilkerson) and they later had a son and twin daughters (1950). This all occured in the New Brunswick area. Any information would be appreciated!!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In 1918 James Jr. worked for SS White Dental Mfg,Staten Island NY. This family is extremely hard to locate as they tend to change the truth to fit their needs.... case in point....all three brothers have their dad coming from differnt states in the 1910 and 1920 Census. Ernest has his birth year as 1895 on his draft card, when in fact it is 1900. I do have them located in 1910. 1920 and 1930 Census and have all three's draft card. Do you know these Wrights?
