    1. Re: [NJMIDDLE] Revolutionary Soldier Samuel Drake
    2. BILL CADMUS
    3. CAPT. SAMUEL DRAKE was the son of Hannah Blackford Manning Drake, wife of Isaac Drake. Samuel was born circa 1716. His Brothers were Jonas, circa 1717; Daniel b. circa 1718-19; Isaac born 1720-21; Nathaniel, b. 1725 ;d. 2 Oct 1801 And Hannah. Hannah Blackford Manning Drake must have been quite a person and was recognized for it. Reverend John Drake appointed her executrix of his estate -- no easy task at any time. But at this instancer, Hannah was needing some rest after years of childbearing, beginning in 1700 with Benjamin Manning's child, Israel; then five more by her second husband, Joseph Drake. Then finally, six more youngsters by her last husband, Isaac -- twelve in all. In those days of big families, that was the rule. Certain it was that Hannah could have handled Rev. Joh's estate if she had been younger, but now she waqs tired, and, in her own words, renounced the duty of an executrix, " finding myself by age and other inabilitys not capable," and named two of her sons, Captain Samuel and Jonas to become executors. Who was Ann, Anna, Anne, Hanna, Hannah Blackford? She was the devoted wife who kept three families going "for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, " for sixty crowded years. Above info was taken from Genealogies of New Jersey Families pages 132, 133, 134. I hope this infor helps you. William Smalley Cadmus diamondsharp@cheshire.net

Most of what I know comes from that saem headstone you mentioned. I found it a couple years ago while searching for the Gillis family. John Gillis born 1830 and died 4 March 1875 married to Elizabeth Ruddy died 15 September 1889. I had tried to botain both of their death certificates with no success. They told me there were no reported deaths for Woodbridge in 1875 and instead of providing a death certificate for Elizabeth Ruddy who died in 1889, I received one for an Elizabeth Ruddy who died March 20, 1876 in Woodbridge. She is listed as a widow at 103 years of age from Scotland. The cause of death is old age. No other information was supplied. There is a slim chance my cousin might ahve somehting else in her research. I'll check and find it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He is my grandmother's father and it is almost as if he never existed because I can't find ANYTHING on him...I was able to find his family in the 1930 census living in New Brunswick before he was born. His father was John H. Conover, his mother was Anna Conover, and he had three brothers (at this time) named John Jr., Franklin, and Richard. He married my g-grandmother Freddie Lee Wilkerson sometime in the 1950s, they later got divorced (in the 1950s) and this is about as much as I know. Other than that I cannot find any information on him at all...I live in Hawaii so I don't have access to all the records stored in New Jersey...does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do next?
