    1. Smalley
    2. Hi Harmon, Glad to help when I can. I don't have much on Edward Smalley, just he is the father of John Smalley and that he was born around 1589. I assume Devonshire, England since that is where John was born. My reference is from "John Smalley And His Descendants In America-by Matthew F. Smalley". I saw this reference at the FHC. If I can be of any more help let me know. Roberta.

    1. Runyon & Smalley
    2. Hi Phoebe, I will send you copies of my info tomorrow. Have a graduation to go to today. Would you like any family group sheets from me? I haven't heard of any Smalley dispute, is it interesting? I love stories about the family. I have a great deal of info on John Smalley. I joined the Runyon list last night. Will be interesting to see what comes of it. I have all the way back to Vincent and Anne Boutcher Runyon. On the Smalley's I have back to Edward Smalley. I kept the e-mail address of Husky. How is he related to Richard Runyon? Who is your Elizabeth listed under for DAR? I hadn't heard that Richard was in the Rev. War. Isn't it interesting & exciting to find new things. Until Later, Roberta.

    2. Harman Clark
    3. Pardon me for jumping in, but I got copies of your messages posted on NJMIDDLE-L list. However I missed the original queries. Have either of you checked the Runyon family list -- RUNYON-L@rootsweb.com If not, I think you may find it helpful. You can subscribe in usual fashion, to RUNYON-L-request@rootsweb.com and just put SUBSCRIBE as message with nothing else. I have quite a bit on the Runyon family, though not a direct descendant. I am, however, descended from the Dunns of the Piscataway, NJ area (and lived in Dunellen, next to Piscataway, for 40 years). You also mention Dunham -- which is quite a surname to research. You are probably aware that there were two Dunham families in the Woodbridge/Piscataway NJ area -- the "real" one from Plymouth, and that of Jonathan Singletary, who married a Bloomfield, moved to N.J., and changed his name to Dunham (mainly, I think, to confuse us). 2. Hi Phoebe, I saw your letter on the NJ middle-list and my husband is related to Richard Runyon also. Richard Runyon's daughter Sarah married Elias Coriell and that is our connection. To make sure my info is correct was your Elizabeth Runyon married to Moses Carpenter? I have a lot of Runyon info but have never double checked it. It is nice to find someone out there who might be able to help me do that. Roberta Summers

    1. Doty query from Dunham family web site PHINEAS DUN
    2. HI, I saw your query in the Dunham family website this morning. The reason I was looking at that family is tht the search engine took me there with the surename, "Dun." I was interested in this because 1. The Dunhams married into the RUNYON family and I am descended from the Runyon family. 2. My gr gr Aunt Beulah Elizabeth Melvin (sister to my ancestor desc from the Runyons of NJ) married Timothy Lockwood and they had a daughter who married into the Dunham family also, a couple generations later. 3. My Elizabeth Runyon (dau of Richard of Peter of Vincent the immigrant) widower husband was the exec of Phineas Dun and a Jonathan (I think) Doty of Warwick, Or. Co. NY was a witness. Why are you interested in the Doty's, in connection with the Dunhams? Are the Dotys related to the Duns. Are you interested in the LI Quaker Dotys? Phoebe

    1. Welcome from Listowner/Queries
    2. Glenn G. Geisheimer
    3. Hello Middlesex County Genealogists, Welcome to the new Middlesex County Mailing List. We now have close to 60 members. My name is Glenn Geisheimer and I am the owner of the list, (my email address is at the bottom). I have lived in Woodbridge Township for the past 43 years. As many of you know the old Middlesex County Web Site was neglected for at least the past 6 months. The owner disappeared. I had to start the site over again from scratch. During the next few weeks I'll use the mailing list to explain different parts of the site. Of course, any questions you have about the site or the list please feel free to email me about them. The first part of the site I would like to discuss is the Query Page. Middlesex County is the first county in New Jersey to use the GenConnect system. GenConnect is almost completely automated and you, the user, can post your queries and see them immediately. The only thing that I have to do is update the surname list. The system is then tied into the main GenConnect web site where you can search other GenConnect sites around the world for your surnames. In addition to that, once a week, the Surname Helper robot comes to the site and "harvests" the surnames for their site. You will find connections to both the GenConnect site and the Surname Helper site on the Queries Page of the Middlesex County Web Site. At the Surname Helper site you can reach an even larger area for your search. Some of the searches on both sites are redundant so you can have your choice of which interface you like to use. Again both the GenConnect site and the Surname Helper site allows you to reach the entire world. Again, I urge everyone to post their surnames on the Middlesex County Web Site. One additional note, I also host the "Virtual Newark, New Jersey" Web Site. You can find out about the history (Reverends) of Newark Churches through 1870. As I have time I will bring that date closer to today. Also, I have a listing and information on Newark Cemeteries and the changing street names. The newest addition is a story about Potter's Cemetery and how, allegedly, someone allowed 70,000 graves to be paved over and forgotten. Ok, one more thing. The Middlesex Site now has photos from the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge Cemetery. Thanks, Glenn G. 1. Cruser/Beekman/Doolhagen
    2. Abraham CRUSER born Jun 1 1733 Staten Island NY died Apr 2 1819, buried Kingston Cemetery, Mapletown, Middlesex County, NJ; son of Cornelius Cruser and Helena Van Tuyl. Abraham is supposed to have married first Rachel BEEKMAN; he did marry (second?) Apr 5 1758 Martha DOOLHAGEN of Mapletown NJ. Abraham and Martha had a son Cornelius who married Eleanor Longstreet. Cornelius and Eleanor had a daughter Rachel who married Abraham C. Beekman. Burial record Harlingen Cemetery at Belle Mead NJ: BEEKMAN, Abraham C.; wife Rachel Cruser, daughter of Cornelius and Ellen Cruser, d. Mar 19 1818; buried next to Eleanor Longstreet wife of Cornelius Cruser. Does this indicate that Rachel Beekman who is supposed to have married Abraham Cruser as his first wife before 1758 was actually Rachel Cruser Beekman (his granddaughter), and somewhere along the way she was wrongfully assigned as spouse to Abraham? Is there other evidence aside from Cruser family genealogies of a marriage between Abraham Cruser and an earlier Rachel Beekman? Thank you for any assistance, Doris Lane

    1. CAMPBELLS in NJ
    2. Schuler
    3. My ggrandfather, James Young Campbell was born in 1819, and according to censuses it was in New Jersey. Recent family information found states:" Two Campbell brothers came from Scotland to America in 1727 settling in New Jersey. One of the brothers went south. The son of the brother who stayed in New Jersey and his family moved to near Dayton, Ohio, he had one girl and three boys, and he died at age 85" I realize this is very scant information, but if it connects to anyone's family, would be most happy to exchange information and pictures. James Young Campbell was in the LaPorte Co. IN census of 1850, later going to Spring Valley, MN and then to Summit SD . We think that two Campbells found in Hungtington Co. IN censuses of 1840 and 1850 could be his brothers. They are Artis and Joseph. Thank you. Barbara Sample Schuler Waupaca, WI

    1. Public School No. 1
    2. Nancy Ring-Kendrick
    3. Hi! I am searching for information pertaining to Public School No. 1 in Middlesex County / South River district of NJ. I have written and called several school districts in Middlesex County, to no avail. In 1904 my grandfather attended primary school there. Apparently, through progress, Public School No. 1 is no longer, and is now a part of a new school. Can anyone tell me, other than the run-around I have been getting from Middlesex County schools, how to obtain records for Public School No. 1, or where the records might be archived? If I could find my grandfather's records, I might be able to find the information I need regarding who his father was. Thank you for your time, and any help. They had 7 kids: Gilbert Booraem (1797-1868) m. 1818 Lydia Ker RUE Jane Booraem (1799-1878) never married Joseph Booraem (b.1802) m. __ HILSEY Elisabeth Booraem (b.1803) m. 1822 James CONNETT Nicholas Booraem (1807-1862) Henry H Booraem (1811-1879) m. 1833 Maria VAN LIEW (lived in North Brunswick) Siche (or Sychee) Maria Booraem (1813-1859) m. 1. MIDDLESEX CO. RESEARCH/COMBS-COOMBS family
    2. This is my first post to the list and I am also new to research in Middlesex. I would appreciate any advice on books, resources, libraries etc. I am in Burlington Co. but find few if any Middlesex references in our libraries. I would especially be interested in early marriage records. My specific line of interest is the COMBS/COOMBS family. My gr gr grandfather was Harrison Coombs born in NJ in 1816, died in Burlington Twp. Burlington Co. in 1869. I can document him from 1840 on. I have been researching the family of Abner COMBS as he seems the most likely father--am looking for anything to prove or disprove a connection to my Harrison. Here is what I know--Abner COMBS born 1780, father listed as James COMBS. Abner may have been married twice--one son's death cert lists his mother as Mary, the others list her as Matilda. Proven children--James born abt 1821-1823 in Hightstown, twins Ezekiel and Lydia born July 1825, and Sarah Ann born July 20, 1836. I have found Abner listed in tax lists 1819 and other years in Middlesex, by 1830 they are in Columbus, Burl Co. In 1840 in Mercer, and his wife in church records in Burlington Co by 1842. Abner died in Burlington in 1848. I have primarily been researching in Burlington and Monmouth Co. as there are many Combs references there. Then I found the tax lists and James' death cert, Hightstown was Middlesex in 1821. I would be interested in any info on Abner COMBS or James COMBS or their wives. I am wondering if I have had such bad luck in finding this family because I am researching the wrong county! Any help appreciated. Thank you. Kathy

    3. Hi Roberta -- do you have some dates? Richard was a very common name in the Coryell/Coriell family and it would help to narrow it down. 2. Hi Harman, Thanks for answering my post and I am sorry I forgot to put down dates. Francis was born about 1797 and married Richard Coryell/Coriell about 1813. I have nothing on the father Josh. No, I have never heard of the Coriell book. Can you give me more information on it. Maybe it can be ordered from inter-library loan if I had the author name and a date. Are you by chance related to the VanNest family? 1. NY and NJ both own Ellis Island now.
    2. Nancy Ring-Kendrick
    3. Hi Folks! What a mess! A court ruling today now has Ellis Island owned by the State of New York, and New Jersey. CBS News states "that this ruling has caused even more problems for the historical landmark. Apparently, parts of the main building, the boat slip, and other portions of the island are owned by BOTH NY and NJ." If anyone has additional information on this situation, I would really appreciate hearing more about it. Nancy Ring-Kendrick
