    2. In a message dated 98-09-13 21:37:14 EDT, you write: << I can find no New Windsor in Middlesex Co., NJ. Windsor, East Windsor Twp. and West Windsor Twp. are in Mercer Co., NJ. Mercer Co. was created from parts of Burlington Co., Middlesex Co. and Hunterdon Co.. Hope this helps. >> Dear Faith, Yes, it does help. Thanks. Maybe you or someone else on the list can answer my next question. When was Mercer Co. created? If my ancestor lived in Middlesex County in the 1700's, would his records be in Middlesex or Mercer County? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Beth BSmith7439@aol.com

    1. Shipbuilding
    2. Mark R. Gideon
    3. Does anyone out there have any information on the shipbuilding industry in Middlesex County, New Jersey?? >From Supplement to History of Bunn Family, Chicago, Published by Romanzo Norton Bunn, 1929: Nathan BUNN of Woodbridge, born 1751, died 6 August 1816, aged 65 years, made a will in 1816. He operated a ship yard on the New Jersey side of Staten Island Sound, opposite Rossville, Staten Island, where he built some of the largest sea-going vessels afloat. His eldest son was not disposed to work at ship-building, which so displeased the father that he was disinherited. All the sons forsook shipbuilding after the death of their father in 1816, and engaged in farming. It looks like the Rossville section of Staten Island is across the Arthur Kill from the PORT READING section of WOODBRIDGE TOWNSHIP and the Town of CARTERET. Does anyone know of any histories, descriptions, drawings, etc. of the shipbuilding industry in the vicinity of PORT READING and CARTERET? In particular, any knowledge of the BUNN shipbuilding business? I'd be thrilled to hear from anyone who knows about the shipbuilding business in Middlesex County, New Jersey - with knowledge of any resources concerning it especially online. Are there any mailing lists concerning this? Thanks in advance for ANY help - look forward to hearing from one of you! Best regards, Mark R. Gideon mgideon@compuserve.com

    1. GenConnect Upgrade
    2. Glenn G. Geisheimer
    3. At the request of the GenConnect Administrators, I am forwarding this message to you.... We're preparing for the latest upgrade to the GenConnect System. There's a few things you need to know about this upgrade ..... The entire GenConnect system will be upgraded starting at midnight on Saturday September 5, 1998. This will require that we shut the system down. The reason is twofold ..... it's not just a patch .... it's a re-write of the program that runs the system. Also, the Global Search engine has been revamped and mega-enhanced, which will require a total rebuild. No new postings can be allowed during this rebuilding period. Downtime is estimated to be 8 hours max (yep .... it's a huge system now!). This is the most exciting version of genbbs yet, and we're thrilled to be bringing it into production. Once again ..... the upgrade will begin at midnight on Saturday, Sep 5, and should take no more than 8 hours. There will be no official notice once the conversion is completed. The new version will be in effect for all to see, and will serve as notice. This is just the latest improvement, and we've all anxiously awaited this moment. Happy Hunting!!!! The GenConnect Team ..... Randy, Pam and Nancy List of new GenConnect Features: Visitor Toys: ------------------- Separate entry fields for subject and surnames ..... allows more descriptive subjects (non-surname words won't matter) Main page of each board displays the list of surnames for each query, in addition to the subject .... allows for more surnames to be entered 'Print' option now expanded to include the entire thread (user's option) Surname page will be auto-generated, and auto-updated weekly (more frequently with admin intervention), and will now be alphabetized and hotlinked to the query in which it appears. Cookie support expanded to include "date ranges". Faster, sleeker search engine. Multiple-word surnames supported - including the capability of searching for them. New search options added to the Global Search ..... soundex (enhanced over previous version), partial word match, whole word match, wildcard searching. Any questions should be directed to me and OFF the list. The links to the GenConnect query boards are found through various country genweb sites. Glenn G. 2. Mary A. Ellingson
    3. Hi Everyone, Here are the names that I am researching and seem to have it a very very thick brick wall with each of these names. Nicholas Suydam/Sedam b. 27 April 1782 in NJ d. 28 July 1871 in Rock Island Co IL He married 25 Sept 1807 in Bernards, Somerset, NJto: Rachel Ann Runion/Runyon b. 26 June 1789 in NJ d. 19 Dec 1863 Rock Island Co IL On their marriage record their names are as follows: Nicholas Suydam and Rachel Runion. As Nicholas left NJ he was spelling his name Sedam. Nicholas and Rachel were married at the Presbyterian Church in Basking Ridge. I wrote this church and they said they have no other information about this family. I do know that the church did not start keeping records until about 2 or 3 years before they were married there. The Suydams were a religious family so I would think that Nicholas would have been baptised somewhere. Plus if they were so religious where is the baptismal records for his children that are being born in NJ? The children that were born in NJ are: 1. William Suydam/Sedam b. 13 Sept 1808 2. Maria ann Suydam/Sedam b. 30 april 1809 3. Henry H. Suydam/Sedam b. 13 June 1811 4. Elizabeth A. Suydam/Sedam b. 13 June 1813 5. Corneluis Suydam/Sedam b. 7 June 1816 6. Catherine Suydam/Sedam b. 14 June 1818 Any and all help would be appreciated with finding the parents of both Nicholas and Rachel Ann. Mary
