Although this is in reference to Monmouth County, there appears to be Middlesex Co. connections. In 1932, Florence E. Youngs published a series of articles in the Toms River, New Jersey newspaper regarding Monmouth patentees - giving not only basic history but covering in subsequent articles, family information as well. Family surnames given focus are: Bowne, Clarke, Spicer, Tilton, Holmes, Grover, and Stout. I am copying the articles to a word processor (gradually) and can attach a file to an email if anyone is interested in the contents. This was a twelve or thirteen week series. The articles are not short. They ran from August 26 into November of 1932. In the same issues, by the way, is a column called "Old Times Along the Shore." I can see that there are lists of Reovultionary soldiers in some of the columns. I believe this column is by Edward Salter...at least some of them are so titled. There is quite a bit of colonial era history in them - I did not order those columns; therefore my copies are incomplete and cut off. Perhaps they are in book form. I am also interested in this migration as I am seeking parents of a Mary RUNYAN who, March 15, 1778, in Brucetown, Frederick Co., VA, married James Bruce, Jr. He was b. April 2, 1760 in Brucetown, Frederick Co., VA, and d. Jan. 6, 1835 in Corydon, Harrison Co., IN. I have 3 grandchildren descended from that couple, though their oldest child, Anne Bruce, b. March 14, 1780 in Allegheny Co., PA. In all likelihood, Mary Runyan was descended from the Runyon/Runyan family of Piscataway, NJ -- but I haven't been able to tie her to parents as yet. Can anyone tell me where I might find the NJ Deed Records. I need page 1081, a deed from Wm. Ladd to John Gosney in 1720, marked C-2-495? I am also in need of information about the same John Gosney being a constable in Woodbridge, Middlesex Co., NJ in 1732. Other documents I would like to secure are N.J. Archives, 1st Series, Vol. 30, Abstracts of Wills, or found in the NJ Colonial Documents Vol. 2, page 202 for the same item. On May 17, 1731, John Gosney of Woodbridge, yeoman, wills property to his brother Henery Gausney/Govsney (Henry Gosney). Will was proved on July 12, 1734. It would be helpful to see the Will of Anne Gosney of Woodbridge, proaved on Jan. 13, 1740. (She had been married to a John Gosney, prob. the same as above.) Thanks to anyone and everyone for help. It is a long way from FL to NJ. Beth
I would appreciate any information anyone might have about the migration of people from Middlesex Co., NJ to Frederick Co. VA. I understand they were mainly Dutch, but I would be interested in a time frame when it occurred and any other facts that would shed light on the cause and reason (esp. land opportunities) that effected the move. Aloha listers: I have just received a transcript from NJ Archives. It changes the facts that I posted before. I am looking for Catharine PARKES, daughter of Plinny and Catharine PARKES, born May 28, 1872 in North Brunswick. Parent's occupation listed as farmer. Now do the names ring any bells? Hello Middlesex County Researchers, Due to a large amount of recent spam attacks (only one got through to this list, the others were blocked), Rootsweb has adopted a policy of "closing" their mailing lists to non-subscribers. This new policy will only affect those people that are not subscribed to the mailing list. From now on their posts will go to me instead of the list. At that point I will forward the appropriate ones and invite the person to subscribe to the list. The inappropriate ones will be deleted without notice. AGAIN, This Rootsweb policy (not mine) does not affect anyone that is able to read this. Below is a portion of the notice I received: ============================================================ This announcement is to let you know that we've just finished "closing" all of the RootsWeb lists. This means that the list server will only let you post to a mailing list if you subscribe to it. I'm sorry that this had to be done so hastily, but we didn't really have any choice. The volume of spam that was being sent through our lists had reached a phenomenal level, and I was spending most of my time on that problem rather than improving the systems. Worse, some users had begun to send spam complaints to sites that were completely unrelated to RootsWeb, but could kill our network connection if they received too many complaints. Closing the lists to subscribers became a matter of self-preservation. ========================================================== Please direct any questions on this matter to my personal email address and not to the list. Thank you for your cooperation. Glenn G. I am searching for wives' full names in the colonial period of Middlesex Co. I have exhausted the marriage records, spent several days at Alexander Library in Rutgers; exhausted the Supreme Court records at the State Archives. Also we visited several local libraries i.e. Piscataway, New Brunswick, etc. Any suggestions? Hello Researchers.... For death and descendant information, it is also profitable to check with the mortuary(ies). There is a large yellow book of addresses (sort of like the yellow pages in a phone book - but can't think of the name of it) for morticians in the United States. It should be available at your local library. If not, a local mortician would have a copy of this. Joe- Have you tried to obtain your Uncle's obituary? This would give you a great starting place. The two newspapers to check would be "The Home News" and "The News Tribune". The Sept 1743 inventory of Joshua LEE's estate (of New Windsor, Middlesex Cty, New Jersey) lists bills due from Samuel THROP, John THROP and his father. What was Joshua LEE's business and where was he located in Windsor Township? Was "New Windsor" a town or another name for the township, before it was divided into East and West Windsor Townships? Thanks, Doug Throp
I'm told the below dates are the Wills of my ancestor. How might I get copies of them? Isaac Freeman [d. 25 March 1771, proved 2 Jan 1778 N.J.Arch. 34:191]; wife, Sarah, d. 30 June 1798, proved 6 Feb 1808 [N.J.Arch. 40:133]. They were from Middlesex Co. But Isaac died in Westfield, Union Co. I think. I hope to get their full Wills. Thank you very much. Greg
SCHMIDT/SMITH Henry & Jacob; NJ > NY; 1770- Q. Who were the ancestors of Henry and Sarah (EMERICH/EMERY) SCHMIDT/SMITH? 1. Henry SCHMIDT/SMITH, b. NJ ca. 1772 [7 April 1773?]; d. Lansing, Tompkins County, NY 1 Oct 1855; m. 18 Dec [1796] to Sarah EMERICH/EMERY, b. NJ ca. 1777 [15 November 1775?]; d. Lansing, Tompkins County, NY 9 or 10 August 1865. It appears probable that Jacob SMITH was Henry's and Sarah's eldest son; this may be a valuable clue towards finding either one of their fathers. It should be noted that a John EMERY was b. in Covert, Seneca County, NY on 1 October 1832 to Jacob and Julia (COOK) EMERY. Perhaps Jacob EMERY was a brother or other close kinsman to Sarah (EMERY) SMITH. Children, uncertain parentage indicated by square brackets: i. [Mary, b. [NJ?] ca. 1798; d. 4 Oct 1872; m. Joel BAKER, b. ca. 1796, d. 16 May 1876.] ii. Jacob, b. [NJ?] [say 1799]; d. 8 Oct 1863. iii. Elizabeth "Betsey," b. Daniel YOUNG, b. 9 April 1800, d. 9 Feb 1868. iv. John, b. (then Milton, now) Lansing, NY 9 Nov 1801 (EUC); bapt. 19 May 1803 as son of Henry SCHMIDT and Sara EMERICH (EUC); b. ca. 1802; d. 13 Nov 1831 or 13 Dec 1832 "age 30 years." v. Sara "Sally," b.
