    1. Cranbury - South Amboy Twp. Researchers Pre-1790s
    2. Are there other family researchers willing to share data and information regarding the early families of Cranbury (then Cranberry) as part of South Amboy Township? I have reference to Rev. Joseph Symmes 1869 listing of subscribers to the church in 1758 and 1788; as well as the REV WAR census and Norton's 1793 Militia census to contribute in any exchange. I am seeking any references to the SODEN family in Cranbury. John, Thomas and William (who died in the war) served in the REV WAR from Cranbury. John is listed in the 1758 subscribers list and Thomas in the 1788 list. I have reached a wall in my efforts to determine the parents of my ancestor Jonathan Soden [b. ca. 1776, m. (1) 1794 Lydia Applegate daughter of William (REV WAR) Applegate and Elizabeth Rogers, and m. (2) Mary Hillyer, likely daughter of John Hillyer (Huyler)]. Perhaps in your own research you may come across these families and will be kind enough to share any references. I will be pleased to provide look-ups in exchange. Cordially, Glenn Soden

    2. Glenn G. Geisheimer
    3. Hello MCRs, I have added a promising new paid researcher to the Middlesex County Web Site. His name is Michael O. Anderson. Here is the opening blurb from his web site: "Research at the U.S. National Archives can be very rewarding for anyone seeking information or documents on their family history or The Civil War. While engaging in my own personal research in these areas, I realize what an asset it is to be located near the primary National Archive that has historical resources no other archives have in the U.S., and now I would like to assist others by researching a host of primary sources in the following areas at the National Archives." His web address is: <http://www.impactvr.com/DCResearch/> Stop by it and see what he has to offer. Glenn G. 1. Did YOU Contribute to Rootsweb Yet
    2. Wilson
    3. I am very distressed that only 804 people have made a contribution to Rootsweb since they asked for more contributions a few weeks ago. This list is sponsored by Rootsweb, and much of your genealogy info comes from Rootsweb. If you're gonna use their services, the least you can do is pay $12 [or more] a year. So...if you haven't contributed yet, do it today. >>>>ROOTSWEB'S 7% PAGE. Thanks to all the people who have taken the time to visit <http://www.rootsweb.com/~donors/percent.html> and sign in. As of 19 May 1999, the statistics for the page stood at: 169 Contributors, 72 Donors, 12 Donors Plus, 1 Patron, 412 Sponsors, and 138 Sponsors Plus, for a total of 804. >>>>You can be a RootsWeb contributor for only $12 per year, which works out to a tiny fraction of a penny per e-mail message or Web page view. 1. Evelyn Reed, born in Jersey City, NJ
    2. Margaret Myatt
    3. "Reed" is a very important surname in our family, but unfortunately, we know very little about it. My father is Earl Reed Silvers, Jr. His father was Earl Reed Silvers, his mother was Evelyn Reed, and I think she lived ca. 1870 - 1938. She married Earl Brittin Silvers. All in New Jersey, USA. Evelyn Reed's parents, I think, might have been John Hay Reed ca. 1840 - 1890. and he may have married a Mary Williams, ca. 1845 - 1890. John Hay (or Ray?) Reed's parents may have been Mary Allen (but I also have written down, "...or Elizabeth Baldwin" ) and George Reed. Family lore says that George Reed was descended from a George Read that signed the Declaration of Independence. Does this ring this anyone? Does anyone know a source for Read/Reed info? all of the 20th century people lived in NJ. Family Tree NJ CD's were not helpful. Margaret Myatt Milford, MA www.milford.ma.us margaret@infofind.com

    1. Longstreet of Cranbury & South Amboy
    2. uofu.idaho
    3. Does anyone have a list of LONGSTREET persons buried at Cranbury First Presbyterian? Does anyone have a complete listing of the legible stones at that cemetery? Does anyone know anything about a Samuel Longstreet who is buried there, died 12-21-1829 in his 91st year? Does anyone know about the Rev. War private Samuel Longstreet who is buried there? Is it same person? Seems a little old for a private. Anything else appreciated. I just started on this surname. I have partial stone lists for this cemetery including surnames DISBROW, DYE, DEY, AND MOUNT if anyone needs a lookup. The copies were given me with no citation. I don't know who transcribed them, but I know there are some errors, probably due to illegibility. Tom Robertshaw

    1. Colonial Perth Amboy
    2. Hello, everyone. I am doing a genealogical research on Phineas MackIntosh, born ca. 1695. From various sources, it appears that he was a lawyer and a merchant. It seems like he was a resident of Perth-Amboy ca. 1725. He was also a landowner of over 2,000 acres in Orange County, New York. I am not familiar with the colonial history of Perth-Amboy and would appreciate any help I can get. I am interested in know what kind of resources are available for colonial Perth Amboy and Middlesex County, except for the NJ State series which I already consulted several times for this case. Sources suggesting that Phineas MackIntosh was living in Perth Amboy ca. 1725 Calendar of New Jersey Wills, Vol. 1, p.146 Phins McIntosh, a witness for the will of Charles Dunster of Perth Amboy, 25 April 1726. Documents Relating to the Colonial History of NJ Vol. XI Extracts from American newspapers relating to New Jersey, p.94 3 August 1725 "All Persons concerned are hereby informed. That a Council of Proprieteros of the Eastern Division of New Jersey, are to meet at the House of Phineas MackIntosh at Perth-Amboy, on Tuesday the 10th of this Instant August." Many thanks, Gary

    1. Archives for the NJMIDDLE Mailing List
    2. Glenn G. Geisheimer
    3. Hello EC Researchers, I'd like to inform everyone how to access the TWO archives for the Middlesex County mailing list. The first archives is the one that has been in use for quite some time. Go to the following URL and type in "NJMIDDLE". <http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl> This will bring you to the page where you can select the year you want searched and input your query words. Years available are 1996, 1997, 1998, & 1999. The second archive is the newest one, the threaded archives. Go to the following URL and click on "NJMIDDLE-L". <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/archives-bin/list> If you haven't visited the site before you will be asked to create a username and a password. Once you do this you will be able to access the archives. Once there you can follow the directions to find what you want. The threaded archives were created last month so it only starts with April of 1999. There is the possibility that these archives will be retro fitted with posts previous to April, 1999 but nothing is firm yet. Since this is a new system please be patient with it. I'd like to stress two things. First, as it has always been, a message CANNOT be removed from the archives. Once you post it, it is there for eternity. Secondly, and I can not stress this more, is to CHANGE the SUBJECT LINE when you CHANGE the SUBJECT! Do not just hit reply, leave the subject line and post a new message and do not leave the subject line blank. If you are using the digest mode, PLEASE make sure you have a meaningful subject line when you reply and not leave the digest subject line. For the sake of continuity of the new threaded archives I will be sending everyone who doesn't change the subject line a friendly reminder via their personal email. Lastly and most important, if you have any questions please send them to me via my personal email address and not to the mailing list. Thank You, Glenn G. Geisheimer, Iselin, New Jersey: glenng@castle.net Co-Administator for the Baden-Wurttemberg Mailing List

    1. Rootsweb contribution
    2. Wilson
    3. this is an excerpt from something I received from Rootsweb. Have you made your annual contribution yet??? although people use the site like crazy, fewer than 7% of our users have chipped in to keep things going. The other 93%? Perhaps they're busy, or they're broke, or they won't pay unless they have to, or they don't think RootsWeb is useful. Because RootsWeb's costs exceed its income, we can't provide all the genealogical facilities we'd like to support. These could include online searchable databases of pension records, census indexes, vital records, or countless other valuable genealogical services that we could easily provide -- if only we could afford the staff to support them. And, ultimately, RootsWeb can't even continue to exist if we don't bring our costs and revenues into balance, something we want to have under control before the transition to non-profit status (as opposed to losing money status) is completed. If you would like to join the folks who are making RootsWeb possible and thus help us bring new genealogical data online, freely available to all, please visit: <http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html> or send e-mail to: RW-info@rootsweb.com nancy

    3. Folks - I sent this, THEN reread it -- I sure didn't mean to sound self-righteous!!!!! I bet those who didn't contribute were on othere lists, or didn't know about the need, or maybe couldn't contribute for some reason. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that those of us who can might want to increase our contribution. Marian Nancy - I agree. I contributed at the suggested rate (I think about $25) This is a small amount for all the benefits we receive. I was under the impression this was a suggested annual conntribution, but in reading that there are so few who feel a commitment to pay for what they get, I'm going to send in another contribution. Incidentally, in addition to all the great material online and in the maillists, the Review is really helpful - I print each one out, and read and enjoy - and USE the information included. A lot of work goes into preparation of this "paper." Thanks for the reminder. Marian 07:44 AM 5/6/99 -0400, Wilson wrote: >this is an excerpt from something I received from Rootsweb.
