Hi everyone, Does anyone know what the "State Hospital" in Trenton is? Is it just a regular Hospital or does it Specialize? Thanks. Lisa
Hi Listers, I'm new to your list and hope you can help me. We live in California but my husband's family is from Milltown and New Brunswick, NJ. I have written information from a SKEWIS relative which states that family members are buried in EVERGREEN CEMETERY, New Brunswick, NJ. These burials occurred in 1906, 1965, before 1927 and after 1928. We also have family buried in VAN LIEW CEMETERY (1940 through 1967)... I see a post on the Middlesex GenWeb Surname List which also referees to the "EVERGREEN CEMETERY, Georges Road, New Brunswick NJ next to Vien Liew Cemetery". When I search the net and look at the map I have of this area, the cemeteries are called: ELMWOOD CEMETERY, 425 Georges Road, North Brunswick, NJ. VAN LIEW CEMETERY 585 Georges Road, North Brunswick, NJ. I'm hoping someone can help me record the correct name for this cemetery as I enter this SKEWIS information in my genealogy program Family Tree Maker. Thanks for your help, RUTH ___________________ Ruth(Grady) & Don Skewis ruth4527@pacbell.net
Those of us researching early N.J. families have to remember not to ingnore New England origins. I just received the current "Great Migration Newsletter" Vol. 8, No. 2, [published by NEHGS], and the lead article is entitled "New England in New Jersey". Robert Charles Anderson discusses, in general terms but with citations, the various migrations to Elizabeth, Woodbridge, Piscataway, Middletown, Shrewsbury and Newark, mentioning such familiar names as John Baker, John Ogden (Elizabeth), Pike, Bishop, Jacques, March, Dennis, etc. (Woodbridge), and Martin, Gilman, Dunn and Hull (Piscataway) -- among many others. I recommend getting hold of a copy -- it gives good foundational background for consideration of these areas. [You might also benefit from Anderson's comments on our old "friend" Orra Eugene Monnette]. Harman Clark
In a letter written by my great-uncle Howard Terhune about forty years ago, he mentions the ancestors I hope someone on the list may help with some information. Unfortunately no dates were mentioned. He says, " On my mother's side my great-grandfather was Abram and Jane Hoagland(her maiden name was Jane Van Dervere)" Based on dates for other great-grandparents they were probably born in the early 1700"s. Then he says " my mother's parents were Isaac and Rachel Van Duyn(her maiden name was Rachel Hoagland). Howard's parents were John Alexander Terhune(1823-1898) and Alette Van Duyn. Would much appreciate any help on the above names. Don Tunison dtunison@worldnet.att.net Cincinnati, Ohio

Looking for any information on descendants of Rev. Archibald Riddell, arrived in Perth Amboy in 1685 on the "Henry and Francis". Ships record shows that he was "exiled" from Scotland. Record also shows that his wife died on the voyage. I have a bit of a family tree showing that he had 4 children, Walter, John, Janet and Sarah. I found a copy of Janet's marriage contract and a listing for a will for Walter from 1738. I am particularly interested in information on Walter - marriage, children, etc. but anything on this family would be appreciated. Karin Morey Oregon City, Oregon
Hi Everyone, I am new to this mailing list, although I belong to other New Jersey lists. I am currently researching my husbands family tree. His family contains a number of surnames well known in NJ genealogy. Right now I am working on a branch that contains Catherine Ann MOUNT. She was born c1828 in Middlesex County. She was married to Samuel D. VANDENBERGH on January 7, 1852 in the Baptist Parsonage. They had five children. She is mentioned in her husbands will which was made in 1894. If anyone can help me, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks, Carolyn Johnson katiej3@prodigy.net NJ names: Applegate, Baird, Bowne, Britton, Brower, Burdge, Conover, Emmons, Hillyer, Johnson, Longstreet, Mount, Norcross, Perrine, Reed, Vandenbergh, Van Hise, Van Note PA names: Homes, White, Weidner, Wohleber
Aloha Listers: Anyone ever hear of Noyes G. Stillman? Male or female? According to the Jacksons' "Marriages in Washington Co, NY..." Noyes G. Stillman of South Brunswick married Pliny F. Park on Feb 20, 1879 at New Brunswick. The curious things about this listing is that Stillman's name is listed in the space usually reserved for the groom's name. Park purchased land in North Brunswick in 1867 and was resident in NJ at the time of the wedding. He had formerly lived in Salem, NY. Any clues or direction appreciated. Audrey on Maui

Hi all, I recently rec'd a death certificate for my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Henry STONAKER(STONEAKER). The date of death was Nov 17, 1879 . It says he was killed on the Penn Railroad. Does anyone know what newspaper was in existence back then? I would like to know if there was any write up on him. He was from the Plainsboro, Cranbury area. Also, it states he was buried at "Catholic Yard"?? in Trenton, NJ. I can make out the "catholic" but I am guessing about "Yard". Has anyone heard of this Cemetery? Thanks for your help. Lisa

Hello Researchers, Sometime within the next month I will be stopping by the Reformed Church in America Archives at Rutgers University in New Brunswick to speak with Russell L. Gasero, Archivist for the Reformed Church in America. If anyone has any questions about the church/archives (NOT personal surname queries) they would like me to ask him please forward them to me via my personal email address and NOT to the mailing list. Hi Folks, Thanks to everyone who answered. I tried to respond to each of you individually, but with the question being posted to five mailing lists, the response was simply too great. The general consensus seems to indicate that "Squire" was a given name for the Boone family, but can also be used as a title (i.e. Esquire). To those on the Nelson County, KY, mailing list - I'm up to page 267 on the book and still typing my fingers off re-creating the index. You have my promise I will never again attempt a data sort at 2:00 a.m.! John Cresseveur
