    1. [NJMIDDLE] McDowell family
    2. Am new to the list and have quite a bit of info on my McDowell family line. I am interested in information on my respective grandfathers spouses. The surnames are, Little, Sutphin, Whitlock, Dean. In addition I have pension applications papers from Andrew McDowell's 2nd wife, Jane Whitlock, indicating he served in a Middlesex unit during the Revolution. Other paperwork shows he joined in early 1776 with a Capt. Pyett (sp?). I would like to hear from anyone researching the above names or has information on Revolutionary units from Middlesex. Thanks Scott MacDowell PS My grandfather changed the spelling from Mc to Mac about 50 years ago. Don't know why.

    3. David, I have a book - "Directory of NJ Newspapers 1765 - 1970", from the NJ Historical Commission by William C Wright and Paul A Stellhorn, which by the way I would be glad to do look ups in for anyone. It lists newspapers from various towns in NJ, publication dates, and places that have them or the films and available issues. Keep in mind it is thirty years old and some holdings may have changed since then. It lists over 10 pages of newpapers that have existed in New Brunswick. According to the book the New Brunswick Daily Times 8 Oct 1869-19 Feb 1891 (then it became the Daily Times) is available for the time frame you need at the: - NJ State library (note I believe the NJ Archives has the ones for that time period now, as a switch in holdings was made after 1970 when this book was published.) - Rutgers (I assume the would now mean the Special collections library in lower level of the Alexander Library) - The New Brunswick Free Public Library several other places have some issues of the newpaper, but not the one you need. Sometimes you can get old newspapers through inter library loan. Anita Dave wrote - > Does anyone have access for lookups for articles from the > New Brunswick Daily Times? 1. [NJMIDDLE] genealogical search in Middlesex County
    2. Mary Hobein
    3. My main purpose in subscribing to the Middlesex County list is to research the Rappleyea branch of my family. My gggrandfather, Richard R. Rappleyea, was born in or around New Brunswick in Middlesex County, around 1814 or 1815. His parents were Richard and Alice Rappleyea. I am very interested in any church, civil, cemetery or other records that could tell me more about this family. I have found militia data, newspaper abstracts, census records, which show people named Richard, Jeromus and Abraham Rappleyea in Middlesex and in neighboring Somerset County, but do not have enough information to make any links. I have posted an overview of genealogical information about this and other branches of my family at the following website: http://www.xnet.com/~ugeiser/Genealogy/MaryAncestors.html I have also subscribed to a surname list for variations of this name. Apparently, this family had many descendants in New Jersey and New York probably dating back to Dutch colonial times. 1. [NJMIDDLE] Morris from Woodbridge
    2. Sandra Naehrig
    3. Hi, I'm looking for information on Lutheran Morris born 1739 in Woodbridge and Diadema Morris, probably his sister, born ca. 1741 and married to Francis Fraser/Frazer in Woodbridge on 26 January 1769 in an Episcopalian service. Fraser was a lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion of the NJ Volunteers and Lutheran was a private in his company. They were stationed on Staten Island during the Revolutionary War and went to Nova Scotia in 1783. I don't have a source for the above marriage date. Does anyone know anything about these 3? Can someone tell me where records of the 3 Battalion are held (not Rutgers Library I know). Lutheran is a brick wall for a lot of us Morrises from Nova Scotia. Sandra Naehrig

    1. RE: [NJMIDDLE] Richard Rappleyea and Cornelia Anderson
    2. Ruth Skewis
    3. Hi Mary, Even though you mention New Brunswick, I looked in a book I have THE STORY OF MILLTOWN, by H. Rodney Luery, Published A. S. Barnes & Co.1971 - ISBN: 0-498-07960-0. My husband is from Milltown, (Middlesex County) NJ and the RAPPELYEA name rang a bell with him. These are the references I found to RAPPELYEA: STAFFORD L. RAPPELYEA was the second Mayor of Milltown, He was elected on March 12th, 1901 and held office for one term. Mayor STAFFORD L. RAPPELYEA replaced the first Mayor of Milltown, JOHN C. EVANS, who held office from 1896 TO 1901. Stafford Rappelyea was replaced in 1903 by the third Mayor of Milltown, Mayor FERNINAND E. RIVA, who held office from 1903 to 1905. There is also mention of a CLARA WORTHGE RAPPELYEA as being a member of the American Legion's Perry-Worthge Post's Ladies Auxiliary - in 1929. Hope this helps and good luck, RUTH ___________________ Ruth(Grady) & Don Skewis ruth4527@pacbell.net > -----Original Message----- > From: Mary Hobein [mailto:mhobein@hotmail.com] > Sent: Sunday, January 16, 2000 1:37 PM > To: NJMIDDLE-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [NJMIDDLE] Richard Rappleyea and Cornelia Anderson > > > Seeking information on my great-great-grandfather's family: > > Husband: Richard R. 1. [NJMIDDLE] Fw: Cyrenius and Crowell Morris
    2. Jennifer Carnes
    3. I am posting this to this list as I was hoping that someone might be able to point me in the right direction to find the noted cemetery or any other information about this family as it appears there are some definite ties back to Woodbridge NJ. I am looking for information on a Cyrenius MORRIS. In a biography of his grandson also Cyrenius MORRIS the son of a Crowell MORRIS is the only piece of information that I have found, and that is the following. "Cyrenius MORRIS, a native of New York, who became a saddler and harness-maker. His wife Hetty EVANS, a granddaughter of Reuben EVANS, who was an admiral in the Revolutionary war. Cyrenius MORRIS died in New Jersey and his wife in New York state, but they are buried in an old cemetery at Woodbridge, New Jersey." This family appears to be the last of the MORRIS family in New Jersey/New York area after that it appears that the direct family moved to Carroll, IA and then on to CA. I would also like any information on his son and grandson, both with the names of Crowell. I only have sketchy information from that one bio. Dates are the one big thing that is missing from the Bio, however. The date that the bio was printed is 1912 and the grandson was born in 1842. From that I can guess that the Cyrenius I am looking for was born about the 1800's or before. This is such an odd name I was hoping that would flag someone's attention. That I have found there were two Cyrenius' and two Crowell's and they are all related and within three generations of each other. The people that I am directly related to are the Crowell's and the Cyrenius Sr. The bio does also state that Cyrenius (grandson) "traces his ancestry back to Lewis Morris, a signer of the Declaration of Independence." however there is no other information that is given in the bio. Thanks JenniLyn Carnes
