Posted on: Middlesex Co. NJ Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NJ/Middlesex?read=1087 Surname: Gillis, Williamson, Ruddy, Donnolly, Deter, Egan ------------------------- I have been researching the Gillis family of Woodbrdige Township. The first Gillis family appears in the 1860 U.S. Census. Robert Gillis and Ann (Williamson) Gillis(1827-1887) were married either in Ireland or Woodbridge and had the following children: Elizabeth(1848-1883), Thomas, Anna, Ellen(1854-1920), Mary and Robert A(1860-1909). I recently found out that this family was of the Episcopalian faith and were memebers of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Woodbridge. Ann Gillis' death certificate said she was buried in the Episcopal cemetery, but I have been unable to locate it in the trinity Episcopal cemetary. In the 1880 U.S. Census, their son Thomas appears in Woodbridge with a wife, Annie. In 1880, they had the following children: Robert F., 2 years, and Edwin, 9 months. Their daughter, Ellen, married Anthony Deter and is buried in the cemetery at Trinity. Their youngest child, Robert Alexander, was married to Elizabeth Donnolly and is also buried at the Trinity Church. Their daughter, Elizabeth, eventually married Thomas Egan and possible converted to Roman Catholicism, as her death certificate says she is burried in a Catholic Cemetary in Woodbridge. They lived and raised their children in a part of the Fords Section of Woodbridge referred to as Sandhills. If you have any connections or information to add, please let me know. Thanks. Mark

Would anybody be able to tell me something about George E. Mraz, Millwork and General Woodworking, that used to be on King George Road in Fords? I have a photograph with 6 very distinguished looking gentlemen, all in suits; 2 sitting, four standing in the back. One of the men is my grandfather George J. Petrick; the others I have no clue who they could have been. The name George E. Mraz and the address is printed on a separate piece of paper that has been glued to the bottom of the photograph. Thank you. Kathi-Raisa Petrick

Hello Listers. I found my grandfather in the 1920 Federal Census living at 525 West Side Avenue in Perth Amboy, NJ. His occupation is listed as "Bakery Truck Driver". I'm assuming this must have been a large bakery that made deliveries. Does anyone know of any such bakeries that existed in Perth Amboy in 1920? Thanks for your help. Bob Meany

Hello Listers. Can anyone tell me where the Ballentine Gymnasium was located in New Brunswick, NJ? I just bought an old postcard of it and am curious. My grandfather was a boxing promoter in New Brunswick in the late 1920's to early 1930's. Would boxing events have been held at Ballentine Gymnasium? I do know he promoted fights at the Outdoor Arena near the Natatorium in New Brunswick. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bob Meany
