They have different hours than the main library but are open most Saturdays from 1-5. I know they have a least one book on the Fittz Randolph family plus many other church, cemetery and newspaper records

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: KERR, JOB, LOOFBOROW, VANDERVEER, GULICK Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zQB.2ACE/1821 Message Board Post: Seeking family bible record for the family of John & Martha KERR, of Cranbury, NJ. Cranbury/Cranberry's First Presbyterian Church shows they became members in 1747 as a couple (also with them is an Elanor KERR???); that there are baptisms for children in 1751 (unnamed) and 1756 (Joseph); and that contributions were made by John KERR Jr. in 1758 for the church parsonage. These records were originally researched by me, because my ancestor Walter KERR/KARR stated in his Rev. War pension (which alludes to a bible) that he was born in West Windsor, NJ in 1759 . West Windsor's Presbyterian Church was not organized then, and Cranbury would have been the closest ministry. Unfortunately there is no baptismal record there for my Walter. The family then appears to migrate to Upper Freehold, Monmouth County, NJ. They may have followed Reverend Charles McKnight, who was the minister for both Cranbury and Allentown Presbyterian Churches, but after 1759 went solely to Allentown. My ancestor Walter enrolled in the Rev. War in Upper Freehold. He later marries an Elizabeth PAGE about 1782; location unknown. I believe this John KERR Jr. is the son of Walter KER's eldest son John; who is not well documented. There is a 1756 deed from John KERR Jr. to Daniel CARSON (Middlesex County); once again confirming he was the son of a John! No prior deed has been found, detailing John's acquisition of this land. Caution has to be maintained regarding this John & Martha KERR, because there is also a John & Martha in Washington Co., PA (refer to James KERR pension and Ancestry.com trees) in the same time period; adding to the confusion of who might be John & Martha's parents. Hope someone with a KERR bible for John & Martha sees this info; or, who has a bible with birth/baptismal dates of 1751(unnamed); 1756 (Joseph); 1759 (Walter), and possibly others (Nancy). Any further insight would be greatly appreciated!

    3. Hi Jessie, Do you know if the acreage was on the Perth Amboy (NE) side or on the Sayreville/South Amboy (SW) side of the river. Sayre and Fisher Brick company was established later, on the SW side, near Sayreville. I assume some of the buildings are still standing. Orville

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zQB.2ACE/1820.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Maybe my description was confusing, but Neshanic Station is, in fact, on the north side of the river and one has to cross the bridge to get to it from the area designated "Neshanic" on Route 514. I don't know this for a fact, but the post office might be located there since it was on the RR line (hence Neshanic Station.) It is possible that mail is delivered throughout all areas known as Neshanic from the Neshanic Station post office. Neshanic has no clearly discernable "town" layout while Neshanic Station does with some interesting Victorian houses. On weekends there is a small but interesting flea market on the bank of the river under the bridge. (It even has a decent good-old-boy country bar.) Neshanic's major feature is the crossroads of Route 514 and Route 547 with its historic church and three-way stop that is a pleasure to behold at 5:45 PM. It also has a village theater that has gained a following beyond it's geographical area.

    1. [NJMID] Raritan River grants
    2. I have a copy of a deed from the East Jersey Proprietors to Capt Edward Clements made in 1684 for 504 acres on the Raritan River near Perth Amboy. The original handwriting is very hard to decipher but I think it indicates that Capt Clements had already purchased a right to the land from the Indians and was getting a new title from the Proprietors. Does anyone have any clue as to what was going on at that particular time? I have seen an entry in other records which indicates that Edward Clements paid taxes on land in Middlesex Co in 1669...Whether the tax record was for the same property as that on the Raritan is unknown. I would welcome any information on the possibilities. I am aware of the struggles over land titles in the area and wonder if Clements bought his property twice....If he owned some other property in Middlesex Co I can find no record of either its purchase or sale. Thanks for any assistance. Jessie, Calif

It sits on the South Branch of the Raritan River and is not much more than a crossroads village. Its larger sister, Neshanic Station, has more people and streets and is on the other side of the river. If you were to draw an East/West line between New Brunswick and Flemington on a map of New Jersey, Neshanic would be about two thirds of the way to the west toward Flemington.

Rebecca was born 1697 in Woodbridge, and some believe her parents were Ezekiel Bloomfield and Hope FitzRandolph. Where should I begin to search for birth and marriage records that might have clues? I live near Woodbridge, but am not very familiar with the area yet.

    3. received this from another list... this is an awesome resource! many people from Monmouth & Middlesex counties migrated to IL, including VOORHEES, VAUGHN, KIRBY, VAN HORNE, & many others. browse the alpha list... many offer the 'home county' in NJ. they named the county Jersey due to so many settlers coming from there. enjoy! and thanks to the awesome rootsweb folk who helped provide this online! --- fwd msg --- Sorry if you get this message more than once. Marty Crull has contributed his huge obituary database, over 6,000 obits! These are now online on the Jersey County GenWeb page under "Jersey County Obituaries." While almost all of the obits have a Jersey County connection, there are a fairly large number of entries for Greene and Madison counties. Also Macoupin and Calhoun. Some are also people who moved and later died elsewhere in Illinois. Marty's database did not have any entries for surnames beginning with H, I, J or S. There are only a few for these surnames and they are limited to Jersey County. http://www.rootsweb.com/~iljersey/obits/Obituaries.htm Just for your information.
