    3. Don't know what the particular items you are trying to identify, but there is Prospect Plains near Cranbury, NJ and there is an old area known as Pleasant Hill. There was a school there many years ago used jointly by Cranbury, South Brunswick and probably Monroe Township located somewhere on the Cranbury Road. Maybe this is the Pleasant you are researching. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zQB.2ACE/517.1.1 Message Board Post: Oops! Correction!! I said that one family researcher thinks our Bonhams descend from a George (?) Bonham who emigrated from England to North Carolina. What I SHOULD have said was, the researcher thinks this Bonham came from England to VIRGINIA, not North Carolina!! Still---no proof! *sigh*

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Bonham, Gufford (McGufford), Henry, Vann, Futch, Herring Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zQB.2ACE/517.1 Message Board Post: Hi, Bob, I too descend from the Gufford (McGufford) and Bonham families of North Carolina. Hezekiah Bonham Sr. and Ann Gufford are my direct ancestors; I descend from their son Hezekiah Bonham Jr. The Gufford line is something of a mystery. The name when they first arrived in North Carolina (probably in the late 1700's) was McGufford: at some later time they dropped the "Mc" and just went by the name "Gufford". The first of this line we know of is a Nathaniel McGufford who apparently was the ancestor of all the Guffords in that area. So far we haven't been able to find a wife for Nathaniel (altho with all those children he undoubtedly had one!!) or where he was from: I suspect it was somewhere in Scotland. The Bonham line is kind of mysterious too. I thought I would have an easy time finding this ancestral line, since the names are quite unusual with all the Hezekiahs, Zachariahs, etc. Imagine my astonishment when I found TONS of people with those same names: only they came from New England/New Jersey, NOT North Carolina!! I soon discovered that researchers usually just call them the "iah Bonhams" since so many of their names ended that way--I was totally amazed! Alas, so far I haven't been able to get beyond a Samuel Bonham, the earliest known ancestor of my Bonhams, and apparently he was a North Carolinian. (It's possible he or his family came down from Virginia.) One cousin who has done some research thinks our Bonhams descend from a George (?) Bonham who came from somewhere in England to North Carolina. I don't know how reliable his sources are, tho. I do think that all these "iah Bonhams" running around are too big a coincidence NOT to be related!! So it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it turned out that OUR Hezekiah Bonham was a direct descedant of the Bonhams of New Jersey (who I believe emigrated there from New England). But sadly at this point I have no proof! I really wish I COULD tie our Bonhams into this other Bonham line--it would certainly give us an interesting, not to mention lengthy, ancestry! If you've come up with anything about the Bonhams, please let me know! And if I get lucky enough to find a solid link, I'll be sure and post it here!! Thanks, Patti
