    3. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! When I first saw that url I checked it out and found two sets of grandparents in the directory and an uncle and his family on the census. And the family whose antiques I have inherited. They use to be my grandparents neighbors. Learned several things. Like my uncle came from Hungary. Was always told he was German. What you learn when you do research!!!

    2. The address is www.oldmillsociety.org/ Click on 'local history' or the name on left nearest that. I love the site..The census info focuses on the area known as Old Mill Hill but the City directories are city wide... 3. > Is any one working on the Beatty's from ireland who came to Trenton New Jersey in the 1880's. Two brothers Thomas and Edward stayed in Trenton. They had a sister who went to MA and stayed. Their father was Michael Beatty. There was other brothers and sisters but i do not know where they went to. Any help would really be appreciated. Donna, There was a Beatty family in Ellisdale, when I was growing up. Ellisdale is on the North Hanover, Burlington / Upper Freehold, Monouth line., not far from the Mercer Co. too. I was in the Ellisdale Methodist cemetery last week, and there are quite a few (its a small cemetery) Beattys buried in there. Vernon Beatty is in there, I remember him from growing up and his grandson "Zeek" b about 1945, he isn't in there yet :-). I go up about once a week to my parents, could look the stones up if you are interested. Anita

    3. I have been perusing the online Trenton City Directories (great thanks to those who made that possible!) and I note a distinct lack of the Italian side of my family until the 1920 directory. My great-grandfather came to Trenton very early - the 1840's or 50's - but does not show up in any of the other directories. Were these meant to be all inclusive, or did they simply ignore certain ethnic groups? Jeff DeMarco jmd@alumni.princeton.edu

    1. GenConnect gateway
    2. Barbara Barnett
    3. Thank you for your responses on the GenConnect question. The opinions were nearly unanimously in favor of opening the gateway. It turns out the process was a little more complicated than I had first thought (what else is new?); what I have done is to "open" the gateway from the List side by indicating acceptance of the posts from Mercer GenConnect. Now the Board administrator for Mercer, if s/he chooses to, will open the gateway from that side. I've sent a request for that to happen. If it does, we will watch and see what happens; problems will be dealt with if/when they arise, and your comments will continue to be encouraged. If anyone has questions, I will be happy to go in search of answers. Barbara

    3. David, Smith's Avenue and Cosey Place were between Cooper and Lamberton Streets. They were more the size of alleys (about 15 to 35 feet wide) rather streets (50 to 60 feet wide). Smith's Avenue (or Street) cut the block between Market Street & the Railroad tracks seen on the map at: http://www.oldmillhillsociety.org/research/photos-images/Map1860.jpg in two roughly equal sections. Cosey Place ran parallel to Cooper & Lamberton from Smith's Street to a now non-existant Shepherd Street which ran in front of the railroad tracks shown in the map. 3. My great-great grandmother's obituary indicated that she was a member of that, too: "Mrs. Witmer was a member of Betsy Ross Council, No. 101, Sons and Daughters of Liberty.", according to an explanation in a book in the Trenton library, the "Sons and Daughters of Liberty...was founded in 1877 as a 'patriotic and nationalistic' fraternal benefit society in the United States. It was open to white Protestants only and excluded those who manufactured or sold intoxicating liquor. Based in Philadelphia, the order is long extinct." 2. Hi All, I was looking through some old Trenton Times newspaper's the other day and found two pages of group school pictures. They are of children graduating from Trenton area schools in June of 1940. They are in the Trenton Times dated June 24th 1940. 2. Barbara Barnett
    3. Pat has asked if the connection to the Mercer GenConnect board be ended should it not prove helpful. Yes, it can. It would simply be a matter of manually "unsubscribing" the GenConnect board from the NJMERCER list, much as members subscribe and unsubscribe. So, a trial period is also possible. Barbara

    2. Barbara Barnett
    3. Rootsweb has made available a service whereby messages posted to county GenConnect boards can be automatically sent to the appropriate county list. List administrators have a choice to accept the service or not. It would eliminate frequent checking of the GenConnect boards to see new stuff that's been posted, but I really don't know how much more mail it would generate. It would, I think, broaden opportunities to connect with people who may not be current list members. This is your list - do you want that connection made? Barbara

    1. Hoag Family
    2. Cheryl
    3. I am looking for information on David Hoag, my 3rd grgrandfather who was born in NY and lived in Trenton, NJ by 1877 where he is listed in a City Directory as living on S. Warren . Also mentioned on SWarren is a REv. William H. Hoag , pastor of the Warren ST M E Church. In 1881 David is listed as a plumber and 1882 listed as a janitor at Normal School...like to know what that was also. Does anyone have any information on either David or Rev. William H. Hoag? I do not have access to the other city directories other than the ones posted on the Old Mill Hill Society site. I really need a death date for David Hoag. He was married to a Jennie Prickett, supposedly born in Ireland according to their son ,Walter Lewis Hoag's death certificate. Any help with the Hoag surname would be appreciated. -Cheryl
