Storky did take over Gertie's. He then expanded. He moved into the five and dime store called Smith's. Of the candy store, I remember the owner on Halloween, he would film (8mm) of the kids coming into their place, to trick or treat. I wonder if the daughter still has the films? Russ0888@aol.com
Several Questions: 1. Does anyone know about a Quaker meeting in Trenton as of the 1870's at the NW corner of Hanover and Montgomery streets? Which meeting was this (sect)? Does it still exist? Do the streets exist? Where can I find records about the meeting? My understanding is that I need to consult Swarthmore College in Philadelphia for Quaker records, but perhaps the NJ archives has records from this meeting as well? 2. Researching the following families with possible ties to this Quaker meeting: A. 1877 will of Margaretta Closson, widow of William Closson, lists a $500 amount for the Preparative Meeting of the Society of Friends (called Quakers) at the above address; the interest of the above sum to be used in keeping said property in repair. Margaretta Closson is of interest to me due to her listing her nephew, Cortland Wilson (or Courtland), in her will. I am a direct descendant of him. B. Vansant Family- she lists her brother as Cornelius Vansant, so I assume that her maiden name is Margaretta Vansant. C. She also lists relatives: Mary Ann Baker and Sarah Kulp- nieces, James Windsor-nephew, and her late husband's niece Jane McGarvey. Also her cousin Fannie Walker, wife of Benjamin Walker of Philadelphia. >From the above information in the will I assume that she was Margaretta Vansant who married William Closson. Also, she had one brother named Cornelius Vansant and a number of sisters, one who married a Wilson, one who married a Baker, one who married a Kulp, and one who married a Windsor. *** I am particularly interested in finding out about the Vansant sister who married a Wilson, as I do not know who Courtland Wilsons' parents were. Any help or ideas on any of this?? Dova Wilson Communications Officer IREX dwilson@irex.org 202-628-8188 x544
About a month ago I inquired about the turn around time for a death certificate from New Jersey. The response was overwhelming. I thought you would all want to know that the certificate arrived today, November 3 - it had been ordered August 12. The good news is that it IS the correct person! My thanks to all who took the time to reply. Anne
Hello. I am looking for the ancestry of Thomas Bartlett who lived in the Bordentown and Trenton areas. He had a son Harry P. Bartlett (1885-1953) who married Ida May Fowler (1886-1977). Thank you for any information. Stephanie

He was also President of the Trenton Transit Bowling League I bowled with Bill for years. He was a great guy. He quite driving a bus and went into dispatching, then in the late fifty's he took the job of managing the Bowling Alley that was on Rt. 206 at the Broad Street Circle. I believe there might have been another Thornton who worked for the same bus company. The other Thornton also drove a bus, and he was in charge of the Trenton Transit Credit Union for years, and he lived on Olden Ave near Jr. #2. I'm not sure if they were related. There were a few years between these two Thornton's, Bill the youngest. Sorry I can't be of more help, it's been a long time ago. Walt

If anyone is interested, I found this on E-Bay This rare Real Photo postcard is of the "Polski Store", owned by A. Piotrowski in Trenton, NJ. Mr. Piotrowski poses proudly, smoking a cigar in front of his storefront windows, which feature calendars, floral arrangements, a miniature house, Murad Cigarette (and other) signs, a small banner with a cross on it, and a sign reading "Park Floral Co, Broad St. Park, Orders Taken Here". Research in Trenton City Directories shows that Alexander Piotrowski owned the Polski Store at 534 North Clinton Avenue in Trenton. The number "534' is on the transom in the photograph, along with "A. Piotrowski" and "Polski Store". He apparently was an agent for the Park Floral Company in Broad Street Park (in Hamilton Township, south of Trenton), and apparently dealt in Polish goods. From E-Bay ( Trenton).
