It seems we might/might not have a black sheep in the family from earlier this century. Can anyone tell me where I might find old criminal court records or prison records from the 1920s or maybe 1930s for the Trenton/Mercer area? And whether those records would be public record? My ancestor is deceased, so I wouldn't be violating his privacy. Can anyone help? Thanks. Pam
Hi, Can someone tell how to contact Holy Sepluchre Cemetery in Trenton NJ to get infirmation on relatives buried there. I also need to know if there are any fees involved to get information from them. Thanks, Margie
It may or may not help, but at our Genealogy Society they were preparing to have a speaker talk about the Orphan Trains. I think she is a descendant of someone. There are also books in the Genealogy Library on it I believe. http://www.jps.net/pargenso (Paradise, Butte County, CA-Genealogical Society) Donna Patterson IttyBkShp@aol.com <<http://patterson.family.homepage.com Genealogy Helplist Volunteer <<http://www.helplist.org/usa/ca.shtml
I have a copy of the Centennial Book (1872-1972) for the Walnut, IL area. It contains a history of the town, high school, churches, agriculture, businesses, many family histories, and a list of servicemen from all wars, starting with the War of 1812, buried in the Walnut Cemetery. The book contains many individual and other photographs. There is no index, however, I am willing to do lookups, time permitting, for anyone interested. Sam Hadley
I have the 1973 and 1974 Yearbooks for the Walnut Community Consolidated Grade School with photographs of teachers and students. Will do lookups for anyone interested. Sam Hadley
Dear listers, I had so much luck with my posting about the Soldier's Children's Home I thought I would inquire about another project. Does anyone know if children from the Soldier's Children's Home in Trenton were sent out west on the Orphan Trains? I am pretty sure my ancestor, Theodore Hedden, rode the train to Kansas in 1870 but just can't find postive proof. Have written to all the appropriate places and so far, no records. But was wondering if anyone else had a relative who rode the train, maybe to Kansas. Thanks. Arlene Dunkum

Gail, I haven't gotten around to making a text file of the list, but maybe I can try to scan it with OCR over the weekend. I'll keep everyone posted. Arlene: I'm assuming that your ancestor was Theodore Hedden. I have a complete roster of all of the 552 children who were residents of the Soldiers' Children's Home. The home was located on Hamilton Avenue, in the Chambersburg section of the city on the land that is currently Columbus Park. I have a complete set of annual reports, as well as some historical notes and several pictures of the building including one picture with a large group of the children standing out front. If I can help let me know. I have been in touch with others who have ancestors that were residents of the home. Maybe I could have you all share information. There is a picture of "The Home for Soldiers' Orphans, Hamilton Avenue, 1883" in Images of America, Trenton by Cathleen Crown and Carol Rogers. It shows a group of children in front of the building. The caption says "A large number of children were left fatherless by the war against the South. Following the last child's move into self-subsistence, the Children's Home Society returned this structure to the State. It was used to house the school for New Jersey's deaf. Evolving into the Katzenbach School for the Deaf, the orphanage was replaced with a lovely campus on Trenton's western border."

Looking for the parents and marriage place of HALSEY CANFIELD BOYD (b. Aug. 31, 1831, Trenton) who married AMANDA W. ABBOT(T) (b. Mar. 18 , 1832, West Amwell, Hunterdon Co.) on Mar. 21, 1854. I'm not sure if they were married in Hunterdon or Mercer Co. I only know their first son, WILSON G. BOYD, was born in Trenton, Dec. 9 1854, so it's likely they were married and living there. I've been unable to find census records or much else for that period. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! Shelby Butler

Pam, The only Dr. Joseph I know of was Dr. Joseph de Benneville Abbott 1866-1946 (of this family). This Joseph, husband of Anne Rickey, was a farmer on part of what once was a Watson plantation, coming, I think, from the land puchased by Mathew Watson, immigrant of 1682. Hi all, Can anyone tell me where Thornton or Thorndon, New Jersey, is? I'm assuming somewhere near Trenton, but more than that I don't know. Is/was it a township? In another county other than Mercer? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Pam
