Hello List, On the Old Mill Hill site, I found reference to my 2ndgr-grandmother's obituary. Could SKS with access to p5 of the Trenton Sunday Advertiser for 14 Mar 1909 look up the obit for me? Thanks so much, Jim
Thought I'd pass this on... just got a notice that Ancestry.com is free until 12/21. Their website at www.ancestry.com probably has details. It includes the newly scanned census images that were indexed using Miracode. I'm not affiliated with the site - just passing on the info in case it helps anyone. Holly Knott in Bucks County, Pa
I am researching the ARRISON family of Trenton. John Arrison b. ca 1817 d. after 1880 census Elizabeth Beatty Arrison b. ca 1824 d. 28 Dec 1882 in Trenton the family came to Trenton from PA in about 1850 - I find them in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 censuses. Their daughter Catherine Arrison was born 6 July 1846 in PA (New Hope?) married William Tindle on 5 Oct 1863 in Trenton and died 14 Aug 1917 in Trenton. Would like to find where Elizabeth Beatty Arrison is buried. Also when and where John Arrison died as well as burial place. Beth Klingensmith Colorado Springs
I am searching for location (county) and current name of Rickersville, NJ. Can anyone help? We have a marriage certificate for John B. Aaronson and Emma Asay July 1879 in Rickersville, NJ. Believe they had a daughter Edith and a son Harvey, both later living in Trenton area. Thanks, Gail B in Bergen
Peggy (and others), For info on the Roebling factories, check out this website - in particular, their history link: http://www.inventionfactory.com/ *Lots* of good information there! According to their Timeline link, looks like they were around from about 1849-1974 in Trenton. Hope this helps. Holly Knott in Bucks Co., Pa
Does anyone know the dates that the John A Roebling's Sons Co. was in business? When did they close their doors? Thank you for your consideration. Peggy
Would anyone know anything about Old School Baptist Meeting House (Church)? Also, would anyone know anything about a "Cedar Grove School"? Supposedly my g-grandfather, Rev James E. Conner attended this school. Thank you, Dan Conner Omaha, NE

1. Thanks to everyone that answered my query about Lamberton, NJ. For anyone else who was wondering it is not the current Lambertville or Lumberton. It is currently part of the South Ward of Trenton. Several bits of info. sent to me were that it was the part of Trenton below the Assunpink Creek. It was part of Nottingham Twp, Burlington County until 1856. Someone else said the street in Trenton now called Lamberton Street marks the area. Also, there was a town hall near Lalor & Lamberton Streets. There was a ferry from this area to PA, near the Yardley/Morrisville area. 2. A follow-up to my earlier query regarding the marriage in Lumberton. Does anyone recognize the name "Gershom Mott Esq" and know whether he was a justice of the peace or a minister with a church affiliation? Once again, married in Lamberton, NJ in 1819 a Miss Ann Vanzant and Mr. Steward Wilson by Gershom Mott Esq. It was reported in the Daily True American, a Trenton newspaper. It also said they were both from Bucks county. Any information I can find about this couple would be terrific. I am trying to figure out which Vanzant sister of Cornelius Vanzant and Margaretta (Vanzant) Closson married a Wilson. This Wilson/Vanzant marriage should have at least 1 child, Courtland B. Wilson, b. 1822 in PA. ***** Other possible relatives/additional clues I've come up with include: 1. Margaretta Vansant (1796-1877)m. Wm. Closson (d. 1863) she was born PA 2. She had a brother Cornelius Vansant (1809-1889)died in Trenton 3. Other possible siblings include Ann Vanzant m. 1819 to Steward Wilson both of Bucks county, married in Lamberton, NJ near Trenton. 4. Ms. Ann Vansant to John S. Hinkle m. 1825- second marriage? Death of Steward Wilson?? 5. George Davis of Trenton, NJ to Miss Elizabeth Vanzant of PA m. 1828 6. Mr. Thomas Winder to Miss Susan Vanzant all of Bucks county m. 1820 Trenton. 7. I found a record on www.familysearch.com from the IGI Records of a Margaret Vansant baptised 27 Dec. 1796 in Southampton Bucks PA. Child of William Vansant and Jane Bennet. 8. The same source as in #7 gave me info. on a Cornelius Van Sant of Bucks born 1751 d. 1816 in Makefield PA who married Mary Ann Larzelere. He was the son of Isaiah Van Sant and Geertje (Charity) Van Horn. Does anything look familiar? This Cornelius could be the father or grandfather of my Cornelius listed above b. 1809 Dova Wilson Communications Officer IREX dwilson@irex.org 202-628-8188 x544
Gary, thanks for posting the URL on the history of Trenton re: the Lamberton area. I have ancestors who lived there in the late 1800s and I'm eager to go read it! Dora, I can't imagine that area being a popular place to get married, but as Gary pointed out, there was a ferry that ran across the river to Morrisville, Pa (which is in Bucks County) and just north of Morrisville is Yardley, Pa, also in Bucks. Perhaps the church they belonged to was in Trenton but they lived across the Delaware River in Pa. Holly Knott in Bucks Co., Pa

Larry - if you are out of town and cannot get to NJ State Library you can go to your local Library and request an Interlibrary Loan for a Photo copy - I don't know how much they charge - I am retired from the NJ State Library since 1997 but don't know if they still do so - Marie G

Lamberton was an part of Nottingham Township in Burlington County in 1819. It was annexed to the city of Trenton in 1856 & is now part of the South Ward. You can see it in the lower right hand corner of the map at: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/%7Etrenton/historyoftrenton/Illustrati onns/C07-MunicipalGrowthMap.jpg I don't know if it was a popular place to get married, but there was a ferry across the river there. The index is from 1800 to 1900, although I'm not sure if there are marriage listings from that whole period. Larry, I'm not sure exactly how far back the index goes, but it is a great resource. Unfortunately, it is not on-line. You have to go to the NJ State Archives in Trenton, NJ and search their card catalog index of newspapers. You can find all kinds of major events, not just weddings, in the index. The index is by last name and includes all Trenton-area newspapers. The entry will give you a newspaper name, date and page number and then you have to go to microfilm to find the actual record. The early marriage announcements in the newspapers seem to have been pretty sparce on information other than the names of the people being married, the place where they were married, the name of the minister (can help you find the church) and perhaps where they are from. If you get lucky you can get the names of the parents. There are also some early returns of marriages although as early as 1819 it was not required to register your marriage with the state. I'm not sure if the archives will check this through the mail for you, but they do check returns of marriage (state records). You can see their web site for info. and the form. In case you aren't familiar with the archives I pasted contact info. below. Would like to hear from anyone knowing about a band called the "Jersey Joe's", it would have been back sometime in the 40's. I am not sure what kind of band it was, this is just something remembered from family stories. I had a cousin that was killed in WWII that played in the band, and I have been told they won all kinds of competitions and played around the Trenton, Beverly area as well as around the state. I hope someone has heard of this group. Faith Ann "To forget one's Ancestors is to be a brook without a source, a tree without roots"
