I've also come to the same conclusion about some of my own family who lived in New Jersey. I have a group in Hunterdon county as well as in Warren and Sussex. I also suspect that one family resided in Morris County, but his probate and deeds are all recorded in Sussex county. I'm thinking it was because the courthouse at Newton was a whole lot closer than going to the county seat for Morris. The ones in Hunterdon did reside at Six-Mile Run area and also the area towns surrounding that town. They did manage to get to the courthouse in this county for a lot of their business, but then, as mentioned, some families probably said, I don't want the government to know so avoided it like the plague! However, I'm also thinking that a lot of early records were destroyed during the Revolutionary time because that is the period I'm looking and can't find the vitals I need. Christie Trapp
