Thanks for the directions, Wendy. I grew up in Easton (Wilson Borough) and left when I was about 20. My Dad worked for Easton Laundries the whole time I was a kid and his route was around the Washington and Broadway area. As for the Vliet's, I believe Russell Vliet still lives (although quite old) on one of the original Vliet farmsteads just east of Person Rd near West Portal. I met Harold Vliet (now deceased) many years ago...he lived across from Russell. I've also been to the gravesite of Capt. Daniel Vliet which is in the middle of a field on the old Vliet property now owned by a Mrs. Hajdu on Person Rd. (next door to Russell). I was never quite sure where the Creveling estate was located, although I believe it was on the same side of the road and closer to West Portal, right? My gt-grandmother was Sarah Jane Vliet who lived on Tunnel Avenue, near the double-bore tunnel. We believe that's where she met her Irish-born husband Dennis Malley who was a Section Foreman with the railroad, and probably working on the tunnel around 1875. Sarah was the daughter of Jacob B. Vliet & Barbary Opdycke. I've learned a bit about Barbary's parentage, but Jacob Vliet is still a mystery to some extent. In any case, Jacob died in 1979 and wife Barbary died in 1884. As I said before, Barbary's death certificate does state that Asbury was her burial place, so I can only assume Jacob is there too. The Methodist Church in Asbury claims to have misplaced or lost most all of their cemetery records. The Presbyterian Church across the street has been sold for other usage; the cemetery records are kept in Philadelphia but only go back to about 1887 (darn!). As for Sarah Jane, she was buried at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery in Hampton...without a stone....but my mother remembers the general resting area.
