No Hess but some Haas. Could the name have changed? What first name are you looking for? Several Martins p. 14 of the book, p. 75 of Record Book A Hunterdon Co. Power of attorney dated 18 Jul 1731...Francis Moore of Amwell, yeoman, to "my trusty and well beloved wife" Sarah Moore...especially regarding his 100 a. plantation in Amwell bounded by Wm. In the section under the Parish Register of the German Reformed Church of Alexandria, Hunterdon Co., NJ 1763-1802 p. 114 in the book "The old log Church stood about fifty yards from the site of the grist-mill on the road leading to the 'Barrens," and near where Sylvester Martin's house stands. There was a graveyard near it, but no memorial stones remain...." In the baptismal records that follow p. 128 of the book "#293. They would be Leonard Martin Hess and Peter Martin Hess, born in the 1750's , sons of Johann Martin Hess and wife Susannah. Thanks ! Dear Jan, When I just replied, I hadn't noticed that you had forwarded the entries regarding the Martins. Thank you so much; my Hess ancestors used their middle name (Martin) during the time of the Revolution because (we believe) they didn't want to be associated with the Hessian Army that was causing destruction across new Jersey. The John Martin and wife Susannah that you noted as sponsors to the Schmid baby were the baby's grandparents and also my ancestors. Again, thank you very much.
