I forgot I have a book called, "What did they mean by that." A dictionary of Historical and Genealogical Terms by Paul Drake, JD. I purchased it from Heritage Books a year of so ago. The author says a cryer was an auctioneer. He must have been paid to sell the Loyalists property which was confiscated. Since the fee was about 2 pounds that makes more sense.

I believe a Cryer was also someone who walked thru the streets "Crying" out the news....
