    3. Dear Bill, Nice to hear from you. In your email you state: "Recalling from memory, I believe the family bible of John MYERS and Anna HANN show their son Peter MYERS being born in 1796." I don't know of a John Myers who married a Anna Hann. Were you thinking of Albertus Myers? His wife was Anna Hann, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Hoppock Hann. I have a copy of the bible record which I found when I was looking for the pension record of Albertus Myers. For all those who are concerned with the Myers family (and there seem to be a lot of you out there), the following is exactly what appears on the bible record, which I made a copy of. "An Account of the Age and Names of the Children of Alaburtus and Anna Miers: Said Parents: were Married the Ninth day of December Anno Domimi 1784 Said Father A ["laburtus" in tiny letters under the A] M ["iers" in tiny letters under the M] was Born June ye 26th 1751. Elizabeth Miers was Born December ye 1st 1785 [no birthdate for the wife of Albertus Miers] Sarah Miers was Born August ye 4th 1787 John Miers was Born January ye 8th 1789 Peter Miers was Born September ye 22d 1790 Pamelia Miers ws Born November ye 13th 1792 Catharine Miers was Born November ye 18th 1796 [the above was carefully printed; the next line was handwritten in script] Anne was born September the 10 1799" This record can be found in Pension file W27973-1. In my records I do have a Peter Myers who was marred to Mrs. Ann Crips (maiden name not known) on 12 September 1828 by Pearson, JP [Vol 3 pg 8]. You also wrote: "My maternal grandmother was Sarah Cray HANN, a direct descendant of Peter HANN and Elizabeth HOPPAUGH (HOPPOCK) through their son John HANN." I have no information on John Hann's family and would like to know more, if you'd like to pass it on. You wrote: "Simon MYERS also had a son named Peter MYERS and it is my belief that this is the man who married Mary YOUNG. This Peter MYERS died 11 Nov 1870 at age 77 (calculated birth date 1793). This Peter MYERS and his wife Mary YOUNG are buried at the Baptist Church on Main Street in Femington, NJ. Both head stones are broken and unreadable BUT Peter's headstone inscription is listed at the Alexander Library at Rutgers. I visited the Baptist Church in Flemington on at least 3 occasions and although the headstones are unreadable, the footstones for the 2 graves are clearly marked P(eter) M(yers) and M(ary) M(yers)." This is wonderful information. I had put Mary Young with the wrong Peter, as it happens that Peter the son of Simon and Peter the son of Albertus are very close in age. However, Peter the son of Albertus removed from Hunterdon to Alleghany County, NY, which I know from a deed in which he quit claims rights in his father's property. But now, of course, I do not know who Peter son of Albertus married. You wrote: "Alongside these graves are the graves of Jesse MYRES, wife and one child (note spelling on stone). Jesse was a son of this Peter MYERS." Well, well. I have a Jesse Myers in my database, unlinked to any family, who had several land transactions, dating from abt 1840 to 1874, all purchases except one sale in 1873 to Peter Yawger [Deed 157-376]. Interestingly, one of the people he bought land from was John Crips [Deed 97-227, recorded 1850]. I wonder if there is a connection there with the Mrs. Ann Crips who married a Peter Myers in 1828. You wrote: "MY Peter MYERS who married Mary YOUNG lived in Readington and Raritan Townships according to various U.S. Census Records." I would be careful about assuming that the Peter who married Mary Young and lived in Raritan Twp (where Flemington was located) is the same as the Peter who shows up in Readington census records. That Peter was married to Elizabeth Dilley, and I believe was the son of Cornelius Myers Sr (1747-1839). Just shows how tricky this gets. You wrote: "The "clincher" for me that I had the correct Peter MYERS was the following. Christianna MYERS, a spinster, and daughter of Simon MYERS in her will left a bequest to Elizabeth GANO (her neice), called daughter of my deceased brother Peter." and --"From another researcher I have quite a bit of information on Elisha MYERS, b. 27 Sep 1827, Amwell Twp., d. 13 Mar 1913." I have a marriage date of Elizabeth Myers and Joseph Gano as 24 Jan 1867. That would make her birth as most likely in the mid 1840's, which would make her quite a bit younger that the other children of Peter, son of Simon. Suggests maybe a second wife. Did you know that Joseph Gano committed suicide? "Joseph Gano, son of Charles Gano, died on the farm of David Cline by poison self administered; William T Srope, a Justice of the Peace, held the inquest; Gano was a soldier, Co B 38 Reg NJ Vol [John Bellis, Recollections of Baptistown, pg 97]. You wrote: "I am hoping that you can give me some documentation or sources for the family of John Johannes Albertus MIRES b. abt 1725 in Germany and his wife Catherine. You indicate Catherine was baptised at the Baptist Church, Kingwood (I believe this is the Baptist Church in Baptistown, is that correct?)" The Kingwood Baptist Church records include the congregation in Baptistown in Kingwood Township and the congregation in Locktown in Delaware Twp. (Amwell before 1838). This does lead to confusion. and "I notice that you reference (Jones, pg 469) re: baptism of 2 sons of John Johannes Albertus Mires, in Germany. I know this refers to Hank Jones but you do not indicate which of his two books about "Palatine Germans" the page number is from." The Johannes Mires I referred to, born abt 1727 in Germany, came from Henry Z. Jones Jr., More Palatine Families, pg 469. Well, I think I've had enough of the Myers for awhile. Hope this was helpful, and thanks for getting in touch. Marfy -----Original Message----- From: Bill Morrow [mailto:mchief@hal-pc.org] Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2005 9:04 AM To: Marfy Goodspeed Subject: Peter Myers and Mary Young Hi Marfy: I am William A. (Bill) Morrow, b. 1935 in Trenton, NJ and a family history researcher for the last 15 or so years. I hope we haven't discussed this line previously, if we have please excuse me for being redundant. In your 20 Jun post to the NJHUNTER-L list you wrote: "Dear Marilyn, I'd like to learn more about Peter Myers. All I know is his birth date, from the family bible, and the name of his wife, Mary Young. Here is some of what I have on John Myers/Mires and his family--" You then went on to list the family of John Johannes Albertus Myers including two sons, Simon and Albertus Myers. Recalling from memory, I believe the family bible of John MYERS and Anna HANN show their son Peter MYERS being born in 1796. At one time I thought this to be my "direct" line of MYERS. Later research indicates to me that this Peter MYERS was living in Allegheny Co., NY when the land of John MYER's deceased was sold. My maternal grandmother was Sarah Cray HANN, a direct descendant of Peter HANN and Elizabeth HOPPAUGH (HOPPOCK) through their son John HANN. Simon MYERS also had a son named Peter MYERS and it is my believe that this is the man who married Mary YOUNG. I visited the Baptist Church in Flemington on at least 3 occasions and although the headstones are unreadable, the footstones for the 2 graves are clearly marked P(eter) M(yers) and M(ary) M(yers). Alongside these graves are the graves of Jesse MYRES, wife and one child (note spelling on stone). Jesse was a son of this Peter MYERS. MY Peter MYERS who married Mary YOUNG lived in Readington and Raritan Townships according to various U.S. Census Records. Peter's Inventory was signed by "Jesse Mires", his administrator (and his son). (again note spelling.) According to an extract which I have from the family bible of John Henry HANN, Peter MYERS (no wife listed) had the following children: Jesse; Hannah b. 18 Mar 1823 near Ringoes (who married Charles TITUS), she d. 15 Jun 1911 in Trenton and is buried at the Old Rock Church in Southern Hunterdon Co., with her husband and one son; Hellen; Elisha; and Elizabeth (who married Joseph GANO). The "clincher" for me that I had the correct Peter MYERS was the following. Christianna MYERS, a spinster, and daughter of Simon MYERS in her will left a bequest to Elizabeth GANO (her neice), called daughter of my deceased brother Peter. My direct ancestor Hannah MYERS TITUS named a daughter "Christianna" TITUS (obviously for Hannah's spinster aunt). Christianna TITUS married John Henry HANN (my maternal great grandparents.) So from the documentation I have been able to gather I feel sure that Peter MYERS, b. 1793 d. 1870 was the son of Simon MYERS and his unknown wife. I am hoping that you can give me some documentation or sources for the family of John Johannes Albertus MIRES b. abt 1725 in Germany and his wife Catherine. You indicate Catherine was baptised at the Baptist Church, Kingwood (I believe this is the Baptist Church in Baptistown, is that correct?) I have another pair of direct ancestors buried there Henry BIRD and Catherine BOWMAN. I have still NOT identified the parents of Mary YOUNG, wife of Peter MYERS. There are quite a few Mary YOUNG's in the records of the correct age to be this woman but nothing I have found to indicate who her parents/siblings are. From another researcher I have quite a bit of information on Elisha MYERS, b. 27 Sep 1827, Amwell Twp., d. 13 Mar 1913. I hope you can follow my "rambling" about the family and descendants of Peter MYERS and Mary YOUNG. I notice that you reference (Jones, pg 469) re: baptism of 2 sons of John Johannes Albertus Mires, in Germany. I know this refers to Hank Jones but you do not indicate which of his two books about "Palatine Germans" the page number is from. Finally, I was aware of the Peter Myers who married Mary Hibbs and ended up in Green Co., PA. There were also some TITUS people (related to my line) which went to the same area after the Revolutionary War. I can't recall the book this came from but it was about the life of a Reverand who came from VA and ended up in Green Co., PA. Somewhere I have some xerox copy pages from this source. I hope I haven't "gone on too long" Marfy but I am VERY INTERESTED in the ancestry of Simon MYERS and look forward to hearing from you about this line. I am happy to share ANY and ALL family history information that I have. My mother's ancestors have ALL been in Hunterdon and adjacent counties of NJ for the last 300 years. The Palatine Germans where the last to arrive, circa 1730/50. Regards, Bill Morrow in Houston, TX (native of NJ)
