    2. Dear Marfy, Yes, I do know some things about the family of Rachel Ann Roberts, but I sure wish I knew a lot more. Rachel was the daughter of William Roberts and Effie (Effy) Housel. They were married 23 Nov. 1822 by the Rev. Bartolette. Rachel was born 26 June 1830 ( birth date extrapolated from her age at death as given on her tombstone), in New Jersey, almost certainly in Hunterdon County and most probably in Alexandria Township, and died 6 Sept 1887 in Delaware Township. She and Andrew are buried in Rosemont Cemetery right in back of the toolshed at the upper end. Rachel's father, William, was born in PA and at the time of his marriage was listed as of Solebury, PA.. Her mother, Effie Housel ,was born in New Jersey, again almost certainly in Hunterdon County, ca. March 1803, the daughter of John Housel and Elizabeth [--?--]. Effie died on 15 Oct. 1891, in Delaware Township, and her age at the time of death was given on her death certificate as 88 yrs and 7 mos., but on her tombstone it states her age as 88 years, 6 mos. and 17 days. She and William are both buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, NJ. The censuses show that they lived in Alexandria Township for many years. I have been told that their home (the house is still there ) was at the corner of Rt. 625 (Mechlin's Corner Rd) and Airport Rd. in Alexandria (near the small airport) and that is certainly consistent with the map of 1873, which shows Wm. Roberts as the owner of the property. William died 22 Feb. 1877 and his tombstone gives his dob as 28 Dec 1798. William and Effie had at least seven children: Eliza Roberts (1823-1908) who married Jackson Burket and lived in Kingwood Township,George H. Roberts(1826-1908), who married (1) Sarah Elizabeth Oakes, and (2) Wilhemina (Mary) Lenanec, , Rachel Ann Roberts (1830-1887) who married Andrew R. Sherman, John B. Roberts , 1834-1907, who married Hannah Oakes (daughter of Peter Oakes and Elsie Duckworth), Amanda Roberts,(born Aug. 1837) who married Isaiah (Isiah) Thatcher , Hannah M. Roberts ( 1841-1930) who married William Philkill, and Susan M. Roberts (born circa 1842/43). Nothing is known about Susan except that the 1860 census shows her, age 18, living with her sister Eliza Burket in Kingwood. I hope this is helpful. If you have any more questions, I will see if I can dredge anything else up. Kay

    3. Thank you Kay for all that good information. I was hoping to get a link to an earlier Hunterdon Roberts family. Here's what I've found without any serious digging-- Vincent Roberts died about 1721 in Amwell Twp. He wrote a will naming wife "Maudlin" and had sons John & Vincent. Abigail Roberts married Evan Godown on 10 Jan 1772. Anne Roberts married Abraham Bryan (later of Lebanon Twp) in Burlington Co., abt 1785. Frances Lowrey, daughter of Thomas Lowry of Alexandria Twp (d. 1809), married a Roberts, probably late 18th cent. Everett Roberts married Catharine Thatcher in 1801. Ephraim Roberts married Mary Hart in 1807 and had Samuel, Elizabeth & Nathaniel. Mordecai Roberts, who bought land in the 1840's & 1850's, married Rebecca Srope and had Charles and John H. All of these people are unconnected so far. Perhaps you can make use of some of this. Regards, and thanks again, Marfy -----Original Message----- From: KaySFO@aol.com [mailto:KaySFO@aol.com] Sent: Friday, June 03, 2005 5:27 PM To: NJHUNTER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] Fw: Lester Sherman Dear Marfy, Yes, I do know some things about the family of Rachel Ann Roberts, but I sure wish I knew a lot more.
