Kim, Adeline was the only child of Thomas Godown and Eva Fox, per a New Jersey Supreme case. Jonathan Hunter Rake and Adaline Godown were married 20 June 1826 in Hunterdon Co., NJ I have determined they had 4 children (at least): Jacob Fox Rake 9 Feb 1826 Sarah Adaline Rake 1828 Jonathan Hunter Rake 18 Sep 1830 Susan E. Rake 4 Apr 1841 I have not determined who Adaline's parents are. HOWEVER, a couple days ago, I found something on the internet at the Godown site that caught my eye: Marriage Records, Hunterdon County New Jersey (1795-1875). According to the book Adeline Godown and Jonathan Rake were married June 26,1826, 2-295 (Wilson,J.P.). J.P. meaning justice of the peace. The numbers following the date are the volume and page number of the original record. This may be a long shot but there is only one marriage listed early enough to be Adeline's parents. Godown,Thomas and Eve Fox, January 4,1801 1-43 (Lambert,Esq.). I thought it was a long shot "guess" until I remembered Jacob's middle name. If anyone has ideas or information on this, please let me know. I'd like to think I've finally made some progress on this one! THANK YOU! Dear Mike, Thank you for sending this citation to the list. I have long wondered about how Jonathan H. Rake was connected with Jacob Fox. He shows up in deeds selling land that belonged to Fox's estate, and in fact, sold the land on which my house stands. However, the land in dispute in the court case you cited is a different lot from mine. I was fascinated to learn that Thomas Godown and wife Eve separated after Isaac Fox came of age, and that Thomas died in the poorhouse. What I don't know is where Eve and son Isaac went to live after selling the "premises" to Asa Moore. (By the way, that premises was located on Ferry Road in Delaware Twp. Hunterdon Co., I think.) The answer may be that Isaac Fox owned land in Alexandria Township, and was a miller there. That land was probably other land that he inherited from his father Jacob. Jacob was something of a real estate speculator, which makes figuring out who was where when a little challenging. I do not know where Jacob Fox's Alexandria homestead was, but that is where he died in 1795. Just to make things a little more interesting, the Fox and Rake families got their start in Delaware Twp in the mid 1700s, bordering Sandbrook Road in Delaware Twp. So Jonathan Rake certainly had reason to be acquainted with Isaac Fox. Thomas Godown and Eve Fox were born 1751 and 1764. I have their parents in my records, but not their children. Fred
