Thanks for the info on the Myers family. I am interested in Ephraim Meyers (born Dec. 1837) because it appears that he married one Cornelia H. Fox, daughter of Absalom Fox who was the son of George Fox and Elizabeth Sherman. It seems that Absalom traveled quite a bit, first moving to New York State, then moving to Ohio. After he buried his wife Ararat --?-- in Ohio, it seems that he moved back to Hunterdon County sometime between the census of 1850 AND 1860, accompanied by his two daughters Catherine and Cornelia (also born 1837. Cornelia was born in Ohio, though the 1900 census states New Jersey. This disagrees with the censuses of 1850, 1860 and 1880, which all claim Ohio. Cornelia is supposed to have married Ephraim in 1860 (after the census). According to the 1900 census , she bore five children of which four were still living. Hey Helen, Thanks for sending out all that info. It certainly helped me, even tho it wasn't my query. Eva, Try this-- Cornelius, born 1747 to Johannes & Catherine Mires/Myers Cornelius, born 1768 to Sebastian and Elizabeth Myers Cornelius, born abt 1785 to Cornelius sr. and Elizabeth Myers Cornelius, born 1796 to Albertus and Anne Myers Cornelius, born 1806 to ?? plus a couple later ones. I have a problem with Cornelius Myers. The one born in 1747 did have a son Peter--he named him in his will dated 18 Sep 1834. But he was too young to be the one married to Anna Peters. Too close to the age of Cornelius (b.1747). Sorry I can't help more. Hello Marfy, Thanks for pointing us to the David Jones/Johnes article. At first I wondered if this was *the* David Jones of Hunterdon for whom I've been searching, but apparently not. :-( Does anyone know of another David Jones in Hunterdon in that era? The one I'm searching for was born before 1744 and died after 1810 in Ontario, Canada. He was married to a Christiana/Christina. They had 4 known daughters:.... 1. Catherine, married Conrad Hartrum on 10 Jun 1784 in Zion Lutheran church, New Germantown (Oldwick), name recorded as "Jons." 2. Dorothy, b: 16 Apr 1768 in New Jersey. 3. Mary, b: 1 Mar 1770 in New Jersey. 4. Margaret Mary, b: 22 Feb 1771 in New Jersey. This family moved to Upper Canada around 1790. Thanks for any help with this. Cheers! -- Dave -- David Naylor, Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada. HARTRUM/HOTRUM One-Name-Study See the HARTRUM/HOTRUM Family Tree at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hotrum/ ---
Today I am focused on a *Cornelius Myers* b. @ 1745 who is about 85 years old in the 1830 Hunterdon Co. Census. Probably the same person who is listed in New Jersey Pensioners 1835 as being placed on the pension roll in 1833. There is another Cornelius Myers in NJ b. 1790 (don't know if it is Hunterdon Co.) listed in index of War of 1812 enlistees. Yet another Cornelius Myers is listed in the 1880 Hunterdon Co. census as age 74 (b. abt. 1806). I hope someone can sort these out for me. I am particularly interested in the first one b. 1745 to see if he has any connection to my *Peter Myer* b. about 1750 who grew up and married Anna Peters in Hunterdon Co. Peter and Anna Myer moved to Allegany Co. MD in 1790. Since at least one of the Cornelius Myers was in Amwell Twp. were Peter Myer lived, I feel that it is possible there is a family connction. Maybe there is a Cornelius Myers expert in our forum. Hope so. Thanks.
I saw the article today on NJ.com about the saving of the Christopher Vought house in Clinton Twp., which is a wonderful thing. But once again, credit for collecting the boats for crossing the Delaware was given to Thomas Jones of Clinton rather than to our own Capt. David Johnes of Amwell (Delaware). Can't let that go by without saying something: http://goodspeedhistories.com/hunterdon-county/thomas-jones-v-david-johnes/ and while I was at it, I published the article by J. M. Hoppock on Capt. Johnes and his exploits and his house in Delaware Twp. http://goodspeedhistories.com/historians-revisisted/home-of-capt-david-jones/ Just a little patriotic fervor before February ends. http://www.legacy.com/NS/ Janet & list , Here is a way to keep up to date on current family info. I just did a search for the DENNISH name & used the years any date, I did not put a state in . I got some very currant dates from NJ . This is a good site if you are searching for a currant obit.. no charge . The archived ones require payment ..not expensive. Again check this site frequently . Julie, You are a GEM! Again, thanks to you I have gotten little sleep but lots of missing puzzle pieces!! One interesting piece--my maternal grandfather died when I was about 5 so I remember what a sweet, gentle man he was. I remember hearing that he was an orphan and that fact has now been confirmed thanx to you as I found him in the 1870census. I am constantly kicking myself for not having asked lots more questions of both my parents when that was possible. I wish you all good things! And successful research on the Dienes family. Both my family and I thank youvery very much. sincerely, Janet
Hi Janet, In my 1st letter I told you I would send you the Family History Site . it is below it is free . I just put in the last name hit GO and search. This site puts up censuses , births; deaths, Church records too, etc. At the end of each person's info is a little diamond shaped box. Click to open it & read what they have . You can also print them off. Some things will not open unless you register it is free. Then you may see an actual census , marriage certificate etc. They have records for nearly all over the world. See the maps at bottom of page ?? You can brose by location ... select a country . If you chose the U.S. you can then pick your state. Enjoy , Julie B in NC -----Original Message----- From: Julie & Kevin [mailto:kajbene@bellsouth.net] Sent: Friday, February 24, 2012 5:27 PM To: 'Julie& Kevin' Subject: FamilySearch.org - Free Family History and Genealogy Records https://www.familysearch.org/
Hi Janet, If you subscribe to the site there were 146 entries , I just picked some that I thought you would like to see. It is unusual to find that many , also there were a couple under Denish ( one N) . Up at the top of the page (if you open them ) there is a little box that you can chose the line up ... i.e. the oldest items , the newest items or the most important . I did a search with the oldest items. It has you following them thru life... very , very interesting. it is like you are there with them , day by day. I think the site gives a free month , just to try it out. . I too have gotten a lot from them for my family. I am glad it has helped. Have a nice week-end. Genealogy Search & Family History Records - GenealogyBank Hello Janet & list, I have a wonderful site I use to find family info. It is not free , but not expensive either. This list has OLD newspapers on it ... you have the actual page & can copy it . (I am not good @ making copies) . Here is what they have & I found these in my search for the Dennish / Denish name. they have obits ; marriage announcements; pictures ; engagements ; and pure social events ... I.E. holidays.. get togethers & some wills , etc. It is a nice way to follow a family & see what they got up to. Janet is lucky as the Trenton paper has made this available. Some papers will not. The site is called Genealogy Bank , I am enclosing a URL for them , it is below. You can just try out your surnames in the box. I only put a surname & for key words .. I put in the state . It then narrows it to the location & family name. Once you put your info in a list of what is available comes up with how many records are available in each category . There are Historical Newspapers ... Obits... SSDI info & Historical Documents. When you open it, a list of years & papers comes up ; click on your interest ( I use all of them) it comes extremely small . look at the top , right hand side for ZOOM & click on the plus sign to enlarge it. All the search words you put in show up highlighted in yellow ... making it easy to find them. To see them drag the curser to move the articles. They have a special running now for new members.. I have used them for years .. they are always adding new info. The URL for the site .... http://www.genealogybank.com/gbnk/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Janet here is what I found for you last night... you will now have a complete article from the old paper. I thank you all for your thoughtful comments. I've been trying to find the parents of Jacob B. Vliet for over 12 yrs now. I'm very familiar with the 'Raub-and-more' website....the Vliet cemetery near Person Rd...and Find-a-Grave....but thanks for mentioning. I've googled various 'church marriage records' until my fingers feel bruised (LOL!). Jacob's death certificate (1879 Bethlehem Twp) shows his father as a "Garret Vleit" (so spelled on Certificate, but not unusual to see various spellings). The Certificate also shows "Warren County" as his birthplace (circa 1812). We all know that Warren was still "Sussex County" up until 1825.... so perhaps I should mosey on up to the Sussex County Courthouse. I'm just wondering why Jacob B. Vliet doesn't show up in any searches of Sussex documents...ugh. Also, Barbary herself came from a well-known Opdyke family in West Portal. I do know he was involved in land transactions between the Willevers and other Vliet's in the area. One of his descendants is a DNA match with a direct descendant of Capt. Daniel Vliet of Bloomsbury/West Portal. The first son of Jacob & Barbary (unless there were previous that died young) was named William.... and their first daughter was named "Lydia." Naturally that leads me to think of Gen. Garret Vliet and his wife Lydia Eckman...but Garret & Lydia already had a son named Jacob (who married Mary Thatcher). Soooo..... my quest continues. ;o) -Rita On Feb 21, 2012, at 11:06 AM, kaysfo@aol.com wrote: > > Marshall is absolutely correct. For some additional online records try going to www.raub-and-more.com. Click on the link for Baptisms, Burials and more. Scroll down through the Baptisms and burials to Marriages. There is a listing for marriages performed in a Methodist Church in Easton, and an index to vol. 1 of Warren County marriages. Also some more records from various churches in the Warren county area. I am SO glad that I could help. People on this list have always been so very gracious about sharing information and tips, I can't do anything except try to return the favor by doing what I can for someone else. Have fun tonight turning all the new facts over in your mind. Hello Kay!!! am so thrilled with what YOU found. may never get to bed tonight! have always been just on the fringe of the Dennish family-and intrigued y the fact that they lived so close to me. ff I go searching and, finally, finding--thanks to you. I left the county part open. I got nine hits for the WHOLE state, including possibly your Joseph and Elizabeth (buried in St Francis Cemetery, Trenton). There is information giving the names of seven children which you could compare against the 1880 census. ALL of the Dennish burials are in Mercer County. This might provide a lot of clues. If you think this is your Joseph, you could get a death certificate from the NJ state archives which might provide more information. Do you have a suggestion on Mercer County researching? Sunny day-enjoy! There was one marriage of a Joseph DENNES and an Ann Clark on 31 Oct 1812, however it seems likely that was merely a variant spelling of Dennis. I suggest that you need to search in MERCER County. While that area was at one time part of Hunterdon County, the borders changed from time to time until Hopewell finally ended up permanently in Mercer County in 1838.
