Ralph, Your uncle is still living in Stockton. If you like, I can provide the telephone number privately. If not, I understand. Marlene DeWitt was b 07.19.1937 and d 01.15.1995. Her entry on the SSDI shows as "M. M. DeWitt" # 136-30-8965 (NJ). You probably know that the SS7 form would provide her maiden name. There may be an obituary available in the "Hunterdon Democrat Newspaper" that could possibly give more information. I have some time off work during the holidays, and could do a lookup for you. Also, I could check the Hunterdon County Surrogate's Court. Let me know how you would like to proceed. Happy Holidays!!! Beverly G. Sorry to be so late in replying to this thread about the Philhower notebooks. I have not actually seen them, but I understand that they are more like a compilation of newspaper clippings than genealogy tree structures. One set of the books did go to the Mormon Family History Center in Salt Lake City. The title there is "Genealogy of the Philhower family". It is available on microfilm at local Family History Centers: microfilm reel 2055397 items 1-3. The listing indicates an Index in vol. 3. That sounds more like trees than clippings. I have been in contact with Mary Robertson, but not recently. I do not believe that the "Who's Who in the Philhower Family" is part the notebooks . Mary said that some people who gave information to Elizabeth Philhower Haycock did not want their information published, but did agree to having the FHC archive it. I attended the 2001 & 2002 Philhower family reunions in Califon, New Jersey and asked about Part I - the historian had Part II but did not know about Part I. (At each reunion there was a notebook of clippings displayed that someone accumulated in the previous year.) There is a Philhower CD for sale by Pat Hill but his web pages are gone. I will email him and check up on him. Bob Philhower

Dear HuntCo Subscribers, I just received a reply from an inquiry that I made to the place where I purchased said Map of Hunterdon a couple of years ago. It was addressed to the RedMill in Clinton. Their reply: Bill, We are currently sold out of the Hunterdon Map. We hope to have a resupply by Spring 05. Thanks again for your interest. Hi Dale & Others: Thanks for the comment on the web site...wish that I could take the credit for that...but, alas, I can't....Dave Naylor is the one who has started and maintained that Hartrum Web Site. I sent him a message about the dead links, so, I am not sure which ones you mean, would you please let me know? There are alot of Hunterdon County Surnames involved in the Hartrum web site. Is anyone else having any trouble with that site? Thanks, Lorrie
Hi Lorrie and all, I have been in touch with Dave, and have come to the conclusion that the Hartrum website has a 100% clean bill of health. It is only when I use my (old!) version of Netscape that I can't open any of the links. I tried it with Internet Explorer, and it works just fine. Sooo its a false alarm. It was interesting to find an OPDYKE in the HARTRUM recipe on the website - James Skene OPDYKE, b. June 1, 1862; married Elizabeth Mary HARTRUM abt 1889. Anyone know who his parents were? I find it surprising that he isn't in my database. Hi Dale, good to "see" you joining the Hunterdon County list. A great bunch of people. Mary
Hi all!!! My name is Haskel MORRELL and I am researching the Thomas MORRELL family of Hopewell, Hunrtdon, NJ. Thomas came from Long Island, NY the son of Thomas and Martha______ Morrell. He was born abt 1688 in NY and died Dec1732 in Hopewell. His will lists his wife as Mary(Roberts) and his children as Martha, Mary, Hannah, Abigail, Daniel, John and an unborn child. Mary Roberts MORRELL later remarried to Robert Combs. She died abt 1740 in NJ. John, my ggggggrandfather, moved to Shenandoah Co., VA by the early 1770s and later moved on to Sullivan Co., TN where the MORRELL family has flourished. I was in Hopewell back in the summer while on vacation. Unfortunatly, we were running behind schedule and only stopped for a few minutes at the Hopewell library. (THE museum was closed that day.) I hope to make a return trip in the not too distant future, although it is a pretty good road trip from Tennessee. Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give. Haskel Morrell Hmorrell@aol.com
Hi Lorrie, I just visited the URL of the site at the bottom of your posting to the list, and clicked on some of the surnames in the surname page and all links were 'dead'. I noticed a few possible connections to my families: OPDYKE, SUTTON to name a few. Do you have your info at an alternate location? By the way, a wonderfully designed website! Hello everyone! I just subscribed to this list yesterday, and already feel at home seeing posts by cousins Rita Chesterton and Mary S. Kyritsis. Just thought I'd make myself known and post my website URL for anyone with Hunterdon Co. ancestry who might like to visit. I welcome corrections, and don't mind adding a few new cousins' lines now and again. Its at: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=updike Rita: I did a little search for your Jacob B. VLIET and found a few websites that have a Garret VLIET, b. abt. 1775 as his dad, but with no source listed. I recently discovered Google's fairly new "Google Alert" option. You can set search options for people and include various keywords, and it searches on its own and lets you know by email if it discoverd new info on websites that contain the subject matter you specify. The URL for it is: http://www.googlealert.com/features.php I haven't really given it a good run yet, but it has come back with a few additional sources I wouldn't have known otherwise.
