My own Hunterdon County family has a brief connection to Otsego, N.Y., and I am curious about why. Does anyone know of any other 19th century links between Hunterdon County families and families in Otsego? Thank you. I found several documents mentioning Wilsons in the Old Hunterdon book. This is later than your William but it mentions Wilsons in New York and Middlesex Co., NJ which might be a helpful clue. These are abstracts only. If you wanted to see the document, you could probably write the County Clerk. Volume 1 special Deeds p. 246 Power of attorney dated 11 Oct 1817 from Charles S. Stewart of New York City to Martha Wilson of Otsego Co., NY regarding lands in the townships of Bethlehem, Alexandria and Amwell in Hunterdon Co. and Hardwick in Sussex Co., Wit: (T.) Stranahan, A. Jorden, and J. M. Bowers. 29 Jan 1818. P. 250 Power of attorney dated 14 Nov. 1816 between Robert L. Livingston and Margaret Maria, his wife of Clermont, Columbia Co., NY to William Wilson of the same regarding lands in Hunterdon County part of lands of which Mrs. Mary Livingston, widow and relict of Hon. Robert L. Livingston of Clermont died seized... p. 253 Power of attorney dated 4 Feb 1818 from Robert L. Livingston to William Wilson (see above for details)...this time the property referred to was three farms; one in the possession of Jacob Eyck; one in possession of Benjamin Wilson and the last in the possession of Jacob Hopkins. Wit: Wm. W. Vanness. 19 March 1818. p. 360 Power of attorney dated 28 June 1822 from Rebecca (Rebecah) Wilson and other heirs of Samuel Wilson to Josiah Wilson of Woodbridge, Middlesex Co., ...we, Rebecca (widow of John Wilson), Samuel Wilson (executor and one of the heirs of John Wilson), Ann (Anna) Wilson and Arrabella Wilson, children of John Wilson (who was one of the heirs and sons of Josiah Wilson, dec'd) and Isaac Wilson, James Wilson, Cornelius Voorhees and Elizabeth, his wife; John Jacobs and Catherine, his wife; William M. Morris and Martha, his wife; (which said Isaac, James, Elizabeth, Catharine and Martha are also children of Josiah Wilson, dec'd who was one of the brothers of Samuel Wilson and Ann Wilson both late of Huntedon, dec'd) all residing in Middlesex County... to recover from Samuel and John Wilson of Kingwood legacies of the personal and real estate late of Ann and Samuel Wilson to which any of us have a claim. Wit: Henry Moore and Aaron Tucker. 5 Jul 1822.
Alice, Check this site http://www.raub-and-more.com/ I checked there because you mentioned Washington, NJ, and Jan covers a ton of records for Warren, and a few for Hunterdon Co.. Using her search engine, there were 75 documents for PARK, 13 for PARKE, and a whopping 175 documents for ALLEN. I also recall a lot of both the Park and Allen names from when a group of us completed an Index for "The Beers Atlas for Warren Co., 1874"...Jan has both the Index and scanned images of the Atlas on her site. I know that the name appeared in the Mansfield, Port Colden and Anderson areas, which are all quite near the Hunterdon border...those folks didn't really consider the county line much...married, born and buried on both sides of the Musconetcong River. Check out the site you'll love it. Wendy

Anita: I have Wilsons in my database. I have a William WILSON, b. 1751, d. 1812. He was the son of John WILSON and Sarah WATERS. I did not have his spouse's name. Do you have any source for the marriage to a Sarah, and also for a daughter Mary born to him, and also for his birthdate. My William WILSON's will mentions a son Joseph, and three daughters Elizabeth, Annie and Sarah. He wrote his will on 6 Aug 1812, and the executors were appointed 24 Oct 1812. I did not have his actual death date, but was probably sometime in October 1812. Any Wilson researchers out there who could help me with my ggg grandfather, William WILSON, reportedly b. 15 Mar 1756, d. 13 Oct 1812, married Sarah ____ and had daughter, Mary WILSON b. 9 Jan 1794, d. 25 May 1838? I don't know much about them, I find Anna living in Lambertville, Hunterdon, NJ married 27 Dec 1814 to Thomas Hendrickson REEDER. Anna and Thomas H. REEDER are buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lambertville, but I think the cemetery records for them have transposed their death dates. I have not heard back yet on my inquiry if William and Anna WILSON are there at Mt. Hope, also. I found the dates for William and Anna WILSON in Francis B. Lee's book, Gen. And Mem. History Of New Jersey, 1900. This source has lots of errors, so my dates may not be correct. In fact the date for Thomas H. REEDER's death is wrong in that source. I have the NJ death record for that. Anita
Sally, How nice of you to respond. Since moving to Vermont 4 years ago, my NJ research has all but halted, and most of the info I have on this side of the family has come from either the Rockafellow book or research done by a great aunt for the DAR. My mother and aunts remember their grandmother quite well, so I will have to grill them and see if I can gather any other facts from them. They seem to remember different things at different times. The only other bit I have is that the announcement of her marriage in the Hunterdon Gazette says she was from Everittstown NJ, which is the general area for all of this side of the family. Since she was 19 at the time of her marriage, I'm assuming (oh that word) that her parents were also in that area. Thanks for any help you can give me. Alice, I'm sorry, I've looked through all my records and I don't have a Mary Park, Parks, Parke married to a Robert Allen anywhere....sorry. I don't know if the Park/e/s lived in Washington NJ or not - could be - the name was spelled interchangeably all these ways - but was the same family. Hi Susan, I hope you don't mind me jumping in. I noticed you mentioned "Parke" and that is a name I am just beginning to research. I don't know anything about the name in the Warren Co/ HunterdonCo areas (whether it is one family or many) but I received a death certificate for Mary Allen and it lists her maiden name as Parks. She was born about 1790 and died January 1881. She married Robert Allen and lived in the Washington, NJ area where she died. Thanks for any suggestions.
