That MICHAEL family in Cameron Parish, Loudoun Co., VA is mine. Thanks for thinking of me, Alice. Alana
This isn't much Alana...but I do see that your Michael family was in Cameron Parish in Loudoun County Virginia as was the Rightmire family (Richtmyer, Rechtmeyer etc) I wish I could tell you which Rightmire family the Loudoun County Virginia family came from ...but that is what I am searching for. The connection between the families in New Jersey and the ones in Virginia. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alana Bauman" <sbauman@netnitco.net> To: <NJHUNTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2005 9:31 AM Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] MICHAEL family NJ to Loudoun, VA > Hi Evelyn, > > Below is what I have on my earliest MICHAEL family. Dear Dorothy, I am interested in the Strimple family. Some of them lived in Delaware Twp, Hunterdon Co, which is why we have Strimples Mill Road. I believe the name was related to Calvin G. Strimple (b.1833, married Sarah Kuhl), son of Mahlon Strimple, who married Deborah Lake in 1828 (Deborah was the daughter of Jonas Lake and Sarah Hunt). I don't have the parents of Mahlon Strimple. Do you have any information on this family? Also I am intrigued by the name. Do you know anything about its origins? Dear Sharon and Harry, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Somehow I lost your message and had to search the archives to find it again. I'm not familiar with the name "Gertrude Rex Strimple," but as you likely know by now, all us Strimples are probably connected if you study long enough. So, you can almost certainly go back to William Strimple (who changed his name from Johann Wilhelm Strempel or Stremple when he arrived in Philadelphia in 1752), the first Strimple to arrive in America. The question is, where did our lines part company after that? I've only recently become aware of a connection to the Kitchins, through the Hunterdon County list. My own New Jersey line traces back very shortly after the arrival in Philadelphia. This first William's son, John, was a corporal in the 4th New Jersey Regiment during the Revolutionary War. (John's brothers, Aaron and Christian, also turn up in New Jersey marriage records and such.) John's son, Samuel, who married Elizabeth Biddle in Upper Penns Neck, New Jersey, moved with her to Ohio, then Indiana, then Illinois. Their daughter, Rebecca Strimple, gave birth to Henry (both deserted by father named Haskins), who was the father of my own grandfather, Everett. Everett Henry Strimple married Golda Stitt in Kansas. I can provide more detail, but I wonder if this is enough information for you to be able to tell where your branch and mine separated. In my searches, I remember running across a Gertrude Strimple, but I don't remember where she died. I'd be interested to know more about your Strimples and their history. Dorothy
Does anyone have info on an Elizabeth Gordon born abt. 1820 N.J. She married an Abraham Flagg. Children I have are James Edward Flagg born 1840 N.J. and Ann Eliza born 1846 N.J. They moved to N.Y.C. Where Abraham died by 1858. I can't find Elizabeth after that she might have remarried. James Married in N.Y.C. a Jane Curry and Ann Eliza married in N.J. a Edward Davie. Susan--Would you please post the "will" info here for us all. Anyone know if NJ will info is online----where? Thanks, Joan
This might help. http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/faq.htm On January 1, 1906, birth and death records began to be officially recorded by the Commonwealth. Prior to 1906, records were not required to be maintained except in a few exceptional cases. During the years 1852 to 1854, the Register of Wills for each county was required by law to keep records and indexes of births, deaths and marriages. Copies from 49 of the 64 counties existing at that time are maintained at the Archives; however, returns are not inclusive for these years. There are no returns for Blair, Clarion, Clinton, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Fulton, Jefferson, Lebanon, Philadelphia, Pike, Potter, Sullivan, or Wyoming County. From 1893 to 1906, birth and death records were recorded and maintained by the Clerk of the Orphans Court at the various county courthouses; however, many individuals failed to comply with this law. The Clerk of the Orphans Court or the County Marriage License Clerk has kept marriage licenses since September 30, 1885. (Some vital records from this period may be reviewed on microfilm at the State Archives but State Archives staff cannot search them.) County records, or unofficial sources such as newspaper files, church registers, family Bibles, and gravestone inscriptions must be used to obtain data for earlier years. For Birth and death records, 1906-present, contact the Division of Vital Records, P.O. Box 1528, 101 South Mercer Street, New Castle, PA 16103; telephone (724) 656-3100. --- john newman <johnfnewman@yahoo.com> wrote: > I know this is off-topic, but I can't seem to get the info I am looking for by doing web > searches. > > I am at a brick wall with my own surname The only thing that I know is that my grandfather's > father was born in Pennsylvania and his parents were William and Mary (or Ellen). Doug, The following information comes from the book "Pioneers of Old Hopewell" by Ralph Ege, printed by the Hopewell Museum, from which I obtained it a few years ago. It is very useful and contains much information about the old families. There is more information on Peter than on Lewis. Page 256: "Of the other children of John STOUT and Mabel SEXTON, we know but little. Mabel, married James CAMPBELL; Kesiah, married Lewis GORDON; Rachel, married Jonathan STOUT, and Charity, married John PARKE, son of William. On March 14, 1780, Major GORDON "Quarter Master" advertises horses and cattle in the Trenton Gazette and gives notice that he will be in Trenton on Mondays, but the balance of the week on his farm near the Baptist House in Hopewell. Major Gordon's farm is now owned by Charles Durling, Esq., on the north line of the Borough. Page 239 - footnote: Judge Sexton died May 10, 1785, and is buried in the family plot on the farm. On October 8, 1785, Gen. Peter GORDON and William Larison of Hopewell were granted letters of administration on his estate. Looking for information on the family of Eizkiel Everitt who married a Abigail4 Vannoy in the First Baptist Church in Hopewell on October 20, 1818 in Hunterdon Co., NJ. Dennis
I know this is off-topic, but I can't seem to get the info I am looking for by doing web searches. I am at a brick wall with my own surname The only thing that I know is that my grandfather's father was born in Pennsylvania and his parents were William and Mary (or Ellen). No town, no county known. I can't find any good leads from the census either. This info (the state of PA) was gather from birth and death records of my grandfather's siblings and parents. I am hoping that my grandfather's grandparents left a will. What I want to know is: (1) does PA have a calendar or index of Wills like NJ? If so, what dates would such a book cover? (2) What years can you review Wills in PA at the state archives? --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 250MB free storage. Do more. Manage less.
Just submitting my occasional query for information on anyone with the GORDON surname in Hunterdon Co. in the late 1700s, and especially in the area of Hopewell. The records of that time are pretty spotty. I've spent time in the area doing some research. In one case I did find my person of main interest, Lewis Gordon, in the Hopewell tax records for 1785, but then the next available record was from about 1802, which was a few years after he left the area for Mason Co., KY. So I would like to hear from anyone with information on Lewis Gordon (m. Keziah Stout) or his brother Peter (m. Susanna Hunt). Doug Gordon
Why THANK YOU! Chris & Debbie, but it has been years and with a name like BROWN I guess it's next to impossible. BUT, I keep on a trying :-) Joan
Dear Ms Moore, I thank you for your prompt repy. As to the dates I'm sure the ones you quoted are correct. My data was all by rote and at my age most of my rote is wrong. I have extensive material on the Jacob Everitt( ca. pre bad rote ) family of Monroe Co. PA and would be willing to share.. W. Everett
Phyllis D'Autrechy's "Some Records of Old Hunterdon County, 1701-1838" contains on pages 113 -141 the "Paris Register of The German Reformed Church of Alexandria, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, 1763-1802." On p. 118 under baptisms by J.G. Alsentz is this entry: "Jacob Heinrich, b. 13 July 1766, ba. 26 Aug. 1766, s/o Joh. Jacob Eberts & Anna Margaret. Wit: Jac. Heinrich Grau & A. Thiemat Casperin." The birth-date is off by two days, but could this be the entry you want? Leslie Moore Reference Librarian Hunterdon County Library At 04:25 PM 2/26/05 EST, you wrote: >I am hoping you can help me. Carly & Gary, Roger Jr. was not directly involved in the Coxe "incident" - he chose to stay in Hopewell and I assume paid the additional cost of paying for his land "twice" - paying Coxe again for land he already owned. In fact his land was bought by his father Dr. Roger Parke - I believe, if my memory serves me, he was given part of the land along Stony Creek that belonged to Roger Sr. - along with some land there also that went to Roger Sr.s daughter Anne. Roger Jr. then left this land to his daughter Keziah who married the Larison (can't remember first name at moment) - this land was then part of "Larison's Corner" - both Roger Sr. & Roger Jr. as well as Keziah and her husband and other Larisons are buried in a family plot on this land. This land was bought in present day by someone with no regard for the past and all the stones were plowed under to build a large home and the land is now "behind" barred gates so one can't even get to the area. This was a crushing blow to learn when those of us who are descendants wished to find the graves...... Yes this area is now in present day Mercer Co. in Hopewell. Hi, Joan! We know ALL about those darn brick walls!! Hope you have a breakthrough soon! :) Chris and Debbie Jobes -----Original Message----- From: ADechel990@aol.com [mailto:ADechel990@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, February 27, 2005 9:55 PM To: NJHUNTER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] Doolittle question--YAWGER family Chris and Debbie~~ I'm sorry, but I don't have any Yawgers in my family after all. The other day someone sent me info that I had thought was a GREAT clue in breaking down my "brick wall", but it turned out not to be my family. Hmmm.. I think I mentioned that in my post. I'm looking for their first names. And the territory they worked in. I'd be happy just to learn if they were in the northern or southern part of the county. I'm pretty sure Large was in the northern part. He married Abraham to Sara Lacock. And that fits with everything Jim Waldeck has.
