    1. RE: [NJHUNTER] Albertus Myers - ancestors from Nordhofen Church?
    2. Bellis Genealogy
    3. Marfy, I sent an email to Gary MYERS a few days ago which I had meant to post to the list. It was in reply to his query with subject "Cornelius Myers, Duckworth, Hann, Mason". With this continued discussion on Albertus MYERS, thought I'd re-post it here: "Gary, I can't answer your immediate question, however FWIW, while reviewing the church book records of the Nordhofen Church in Germany, I've come across the surname HUHN (both with and without an umlaut) and I believe I noticed it written as HAHN but didn't jot that down so I'm not certain. This surname wasn't my focus so I didn't record anything except "HUHN" since it was unusual and I wanted to research it further when I got home. I only mention this because there were lots of entries in the Nordhofen records for MYERS/MIERS. Plus, I notice from an online database that there apparently were marriages between the daughter of Yost HOPPAUGH, who died in Amwell, NJ and was from Seelbach/Flammersfeld, Germany, which is not too far from Nordhofen, and Johann Peter HANN. The database also notes that other of Yost's children married into the ALLER, JUNG (mother was ANDRIESSEN), and FOX (FUCHS) families...all these names are present in the Nordhofen church books, as well as my BOLLESFELDs (ANDRIESSEN is listed mostly as ANDRE/ANDRES). Yost HOPPAUGH's wife's surname, SCHU, may also have been listed but that name has not been familiar to me in my research so I didn't notice it. Just thought I'd pass this on..." ADDED NOTE: last night I reviewed some digital images I downloaded off the LDS microfilm of the Nordhofen church book records. In 1690, someone from Seelbach (which presumably is the Seelbach located near Flammersfeld, not another Seelbach) named Christina (can't read surname) was listed as a sponsor at the baptism of Johann Christian BOLLESFELD, indicating some level of interaction between the residents of these two areas. Thus, the HANN who married Yost HOPPAUGHs daughter "may" have belonged to the HUHN/HAHN family listed in the Nordhofen church records...who then "may" be the HANN ancestors of Gary MYERS...in which case the MYERS/MIERS listed in the Nordhofen church books "may" also be Gary's MYERS ancestors. The most famous Albertus was the Catholic philosopher Albertus Magnus who lived in Germany in the 13th century. If you check Henry Z. Jones' Palatine Migration books, you will find a few of that name. The one we've been discussing lived from 1751 to 1839 in an area of Hunterdon that was settled by many Germans in the early to mid 18th century. To have someone show up with that name in the mid 20th century is kind of amazing. -----Original Message----- From: Bob Kitchen [mailto:dkitchen@kcnet.org] Sent: Saturday, June 04, 2005 5:50 PM To: NJHUNTER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] Albertus Myers I've been watching the notes concerning Albertus Myers, and wondering.... But, the Hunterdon Historical Society has a card file of people buried in Hunterdon Cemeteries. It's alphabetical by name, not sorted by cemetery. 3. Thanks Marfy. I think that Abraham was Samuel's brother -- that is from census data & their death records. Listed on Abraham's report of death are parents - Peter Davenport & Ann Cole. Listed on Samuel's report of death are parents - Peter Davenport & Annie Cole. There is also a Leonard Davenport who lived in the proximity of the other two (census records) who may be another brother but on his death record in the place for parent's names it says "Don't know." 3. Dear Bob, The name Albertus is an odd and unusual one in Hunterdon County, but one would expect to find the name Albertus in a college with German roots. 3. Dear Carol, I forgot to respond to your questions. I would think the best place to look for the church records would be the Hunterdon County Historical Society. As for the cemetery, it might have been covered by the Genealogical Magazine of NJ. But, the Hunterdon Historical Society has a card file of people buried in Hunterdon Cemeteries. It's alphabetical by name, not sorted by cemetery. I would write to Roxanne Carkhuff there to see if they have the records. 3. Thank you Kay for all that good information. I was hoping to get a link to an earlier Hunterdon Roberts family. Here's what I've found without any serious digging-- Vincent Roberts died about 1721 in Amwell Twp. He wrote a will naming wife "Maudlin" and had sons John & Vincent. Abigail Roberts married Evan Godown on 10 Jan 1772. Anne Roberts married Abraham Bryan (later of Lebanon Twp) in Burlington Co., abt 1785. Frances Lowrey, daughter of Thomas Lowry of Alexandria Twp (d. 1809), married a Roberts, probably late 18th cent. Everett Roberts married Catharine Thatcher in 1801. Ephraim Roberts married Mary Hart in 1807 and had Samuel, Elizabeth & Nathaniel. Mordecai Roberts, who bought land in the 1840's & 1850's, married Rebecca Srope and had Charles and John H. All of these people are unconnected so far. Perhaps you can make use of some of this. Regards, and thanks again, Marfy -----Original Message----- From: KaySFO@aol.com [mailto:KaySFO@aol.com] Sent: Friday, June 03, 2005 5:27 PM To: NJHUNTER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] Fw: Lester Sherman Dear Marfy, Yes, I do know some things about the family of Rachel Ann Roberts, but I sure wish I knew a lot more. Rachel was the daughter of William Roberts and Effie (Effy) Housel. They were married 23 Nov. 1822 by the Rev. Bartolette. Rachel was born 26 June 1830 ( birth date extrapolated from her age at death as given on her tombstone), in New Jersey, almost certainly in Hunterdon County and most probably in Alexandria Township, and died 6 Sept 1887 in Delaware Township. She and Andrew are buried in Rosemont Cemetery right in back of the toolshed at the upper end. Rachel's father, William, was born in PA and at the time of his marriage was listed as of Solebury, PA.. Her mother, Effie Housel ,was born in New Jersey, again almost certainly in Hunterdon County, ca. March 1803, the daughter of John Housel and Elizabeth [--?--]. Effie died on 15 Oct. 1891, in Delaware Township, and her age at the time of death was given on her death certificate as 88 yrs and 7 mos., but on her tombstone it states her age as 88 years, 6 mos. and 17 days. She and William are both buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, NJ. The censuses show that they lived in Alexandria Township for many years. I have been told that their home (the house is still there ) was at the corner of Rt. 625 (Mechlin's Corner Rd) and Airport Rd. in Alexandria (near the small airport) and that is certainly consistent with the map of 1873, which shows Wm. Roberts as the owner of the property. William died 22 Feb. 1877 and his tombstone gives his dob as 28 Dec 1798. William and Effie had at least seven children: Eliza Roberts (1823-1908) who married Jackson Burket and lived in Kingwood Township,George H. Roberts(1826-1908), who married (1) Sarah Elizabeth Oakes, and (2) Wilhemina (Mary) Lenanec, , Rachel Ann Roberts (1830-1887) who married Andrew R. Sherman, John B. Roberts , 1834-1907, who married Hannah Oakes (daughter of Peter Oakes and Elsie Duckworth), Amanda Roberts,(born Aug. 1837) who married Isaiah (Isiah) Thatcher , Hannah M. Roberts ( 1841-1930) who married William Philkill, and Susan M. Roberts (born circa 1842/43). Nothing is known about Susan except that the 1860 census shows her, age 18, living with her sister Eliza Burket in Kingwood. I hope this is helpful. If you have any more questions, I will see if I can dredge anything else up. 1. Clarification on William Roberts
    2. Marfy, Dave et al, I want to clarify something that I said last night about William Roberts---I said that at the time of his marriage his residence was given as Solebury, PA. That is true in so far as that is the way the announcement in the newspaper in Bucks Co. read. This from the BUCKS COUNTY NEWSPAPER MARRIAGE NOTICES 1804-1834, found at the Spruance Library, Doylestown, PA: 23 Nov 1822 Roberts, William of Solebury, PA to Effey Housel of Hunterdon Co., NJ, by Rev. Mr. Bartleson [spelling as it appeared---should be Bartolette] (3 Dec. 1822). In the official marriage record (Vol.2-264)found in the Hall of Records in Flemington, William's place of residence is simply noted as being Bucks Co. and Effy Howsel [spelling as it appears] is of Hunterdon Co. Speaking of HOUSEL, I have a couple of HOUSELs for which if anyone can provide additional info I would appreciate it. I have a Joseph HOUSEL who possibly married Susan LAKE on 28 Nov 1846 in Hunterdon Co, NJ. Any verification of this marriage would be most helpful. Susan was born on 13 May 1796 in Hunterdon Co and was the daughter of Isaac LAKE (4 May 1757 Hunterdon Co - 15/16 Oct 1825 Hunterdon Co) and Elizabeth GODOWN (born 5/6 Mar 1763 Hunterdon Co, daughter of Evans GODOWN). I also have Amy HOUSEL (or Fanny/Fanney, b 18 Aug 1807, d 6 Jul 1868, bur Lower Amwell Cem, Delaware Tp, Hunterdon Co, NJ) marrying Thomas LAKE (b 7 Feb 1800 Hunterdon Co, NJ, d 10 Mar 1883 near Locktown, Delaware Tp, Hunterdon Co, NJ, bur Lower Amwell Cem, Delaware Tp, Hunterdon Co, NJ). Thomas LAKE is the brother of the above Susan LAKE. Children of Amy HOUSEL & Thomas LAKE: Elizabeth, Sylvester H, Isaac, Charles & Samantha. I suspect Joseph HOUSEL and Amy HOUSEL to be siblings.
