In Marriage Records of Hunterdon County, New Jersey 1795-1875 by Hiram E. Deats, the ministers or Justices of the Peace are provided. Is there any way of determining the church of these ministers and of their locations? In Hunterdon County, were Justices of the Peace appointed for each township? Is it possible to find out in which area of the county they performed their duties? Thank you. David -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Or how I learned to stop worrying and love email again

I have a Carhart, Elizabeth. She was born March 3, 1789, died Jan. 25, 1832. She married John Eckel. She's buried in the Mt. Pleasant Protestant Cemetery. I no nothing else about her. If anyone else has this line, I would be glad to know what you have on this family. I spent the morning in the new Seattle Public Library today. I cam away with a number of new bits of data that need further work and some massaging but the short of it is I did learn a few things. John Paul Lantz, son of Hans Peter LANTZ, was born 1733 in Winsberg in what is now Germany, and arrived in America in October of 1738. John Paul married Anna Margaret UNKNOWN and had six children we know of. There has been for some time speculation as to his date of death. Some have listed it as 1771 and others contend that was a date of death for his father. Today I found an abstract of wills that gives the location of Lebanon twp, Hunterdon Co, and a date of the will as Dec 8, 1770 and that the will was proved Feb 6, 1771. An inventory was made Jan 14, 1771 so it looks like the date of death was after Dec 8, 1770 and before Jan 14, 1771. If the will names the children in order of their birth, and it does name JOHN PETER as John Paul's first born, we then see William , Haman, Peter, Anthony and Mary Magdelana. So, Hans Peter has John Paul who has Anthony who has only two recorded children, John and Jacob, but Anthony has no fixed date of birth or death. But something curious happened today. Looking through the NJ veterans records I find a listing for the War With Great Britain 1812 - 1815. Now I know John is buried in Hainsburg Cemetery and that at least while his stone was ledgable it read that he was a soldier of the war of 1812. Now find in the records that under Capt William Swayze's Company of Infantry, Second Regt: Jacob, John and William all join on the same day, are listed on the roster as #s 23, 24 and 25. This suggexts to me they were related. I'm now thinking that John and Jacob were the known children of ANTHONY and that the last to sign, WILLIAM is the unknown third male of the line!! Curious too is that amoung the other soldier we find many of the names who married into my LANTZ - LANCE line and people we know were neighbors - such as James and John Blair, presumably of "Blairstown". Under Capt. Teasdale we find Abraham and Moses Decker as Lt and Sgt. We find further, Moon, Beemer, Decker, two DeWitt men, Hann, two Potter men, and a Reed. William Vliet's company has, and I've only part of this, Joseph Deats, a drummer and George Beatya fifer.
I was at the Seattle Public Library today and came across some items that may be helpful. In "Marriages of Hunterdon Co. Deats 1795 - 1875 we find Elizabeth Lamenson married to Garret Covenhoven dec 20, 1819 Next is Elizabeth Lamerson to John Castner, Nov 22, 1824 then Abigail Lommerson to Jacob Drake, March 10, 1796 and last Jacob Lammerson to Charrity Shengel July 3, 1810
Hi, I have even seen Lamberson and Lommason. Some of the spellings may be due to how people spelled back then. Pat

Donna, Can you trace any Emmons to a marriage to Abner Rittenhouse b. 5-5-1760. I'm looking for any info you might have, starting with a first name. There is another John Lomerson that moved to Round Valley - he is mentioned in Early Germans. I think this is where the name split Lamerson, Lomerson. Although, I have even seen Lamison used.
I see you mention Emmons too. That's an interesting question as there was an Elenor Emmons who may have been a Morden or the other way round that is said to have been a widow and remarried a JOHN LANCE. So far I 've yet to find more on this. Yes, I'd like to find out more. Ruth was Hulda's sister, she married Adam Lamerson (actually the tombstone is misspelled Lamberson), their grandfather was John Emmons who was a minuteman in the Revolution. This family moved to Morris county. I think John's father was Nicholas who owned part of the Hacklebarney mine in Chester.
I have a Susan Lommason but I"ve seen this as Lomerson, married to JOHN H. LANCE. Susan was born 27 May 1788, married, I presume before the birth of the first child in 1815, and passed 22 Jan 1861. John was born 15 Feb 1788 and passed 06 Jan 1865. Laurence Lance Seattle

Yes - the John Lamerson that married Hulda Emmons was my husband's ggg grandfather, I have sort of traced the family, but can't verify everything. Which are you asking about? "Early Germans of New Jersey" Chambers, I think it's 1895 and "The Lantz Family Record" Jacob Lantz, 1931 can both be ordered by Higgins Books..I need to make sure on the spelling of Higgins and I can get you their address. They were about $50.00 each, with shipping and it was something like 3 to 6 months to get them. Laurence I have the Early Germans book, but did not see that in there - I will look again. I would like the Higgins book. Thanks
It's Higginson http://www.higginsonbooks.com/<http://www.higginsonbooks.com/> The book, Early Germans in NJ is $42.50 plus shipping They are having a sale right now- 25% of orders of $50 or more. I am not trying to drum up business. I have ordered from them several times and received my order in 4-6 weeks.
