Kimberly, I have a record of a Jonathan Pettit in what is now Warren County, 1759: Sussex County, New Jersey Will Record Index shows an inventory for John Fine (Fein) of Greenwich on February 24, 1759. Administrators of his estate were recorded on May 2, 1759: Elisabeth Fain (signed in German) and Jonathan Pettit. The Fine families lived in Greenwich Township, now Warren - then Sussex County. Greenwich Township is near the "new" church in Phillipsburg and near Finesville. We viewed microfilm of the original court records concerning disposition of the estate of John Fine. The original documents show the deceased was Johannes Fein and the widow, administrator was Elisabetha Fein. Elisabetha signed her name in German Script. Gottfried Molich was to be co-administrator. His name was crossed out and Jonathan Pettit substituted. Jonathan Pettit was likely a friend who could speak English and deal with the government. Hope this is of some help Glen Fine ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, March 03, 2008 6:34 AM Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] TRYING TO LOCATE LONDON FAMILY Do not really know about these names, per se. Thanks. I think this is Mary Pickell, daughter of Johan Balthazar Pickell and Anna Barbara (Becker) Pickell who married John Bodine before 1788 and then married Ebenezer Petty second in 1805. If I'm correct, Mary Petty was 81 in the 1850 census still living in Alexandria township with the family of William Slought 40 and his wife Matilda. **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Thanx for your reply. The 3 databases you mention all refer to my David. However, each has a share of incomplete and undocumented data. David had quite a long Rev. War service and it may have taken him briefly to PA before his marriage. Family history say Abigail Poole, other sources say Abigail Terrill. However, there were 3 children born in NJ before the couple moved to western PA -- first to Washington Co and then to Crawford about 1790 (census). I am searching for his parents because no definite link has been established to any RI Mumford except that John Mumford had land in Huntington very early and Peleg witnessed a will, also early. David enlisted in Morris Co in 1777, his brother James was killed at Brandywine. Seems there should be some record of some sort in NJ but I can't find any. Thanks again. -------------- Original message -------------- From: [email protected] > This person is listed on 3 databases on rootsweb.com. > > Does this information match what you are in search? Rita: Thanks for your reply. I know that we are distantly related in multiple ways so perhaps you will be interested in this... http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~streeter/updike.pdf Perry www.perry.streeter.com -----Original Message----- From: Rita Chesterton [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2008 12:06 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] 3 Asher SMITHs (esp. ca. 1805-1880+); Bethlehem & Union Townships To those in search of death certificates: I may be incorrect, but I seem to recall that death certificates from that time period are on microfilm at the NJ State Archives in Trenton. I found my own ancestor's 1879 death certificate there and I paid only a minor fee to have it printed on the spot. The archivists on duty are very helpful and will point you in the direction of the correct microfilm... then you start scrolling and scrolling until you find it. Rita in Hunterdon Co.
Kathie: Unfortunately, I am not aware of any connection between Elizabeth (Smith) Curtis and Robert Smith of Bethlehem Township (yet). However, Barefoot is a distinctive given name so you may want to look for potential descent from or other kinship with an "uncle" of mine, Barefoot BRINSON... "Daniel Brinson, the son of William Brinson, of Devonshire, England, came to America about 1677. He married Frances, daughter of Dr. Henry Greenland and Mary his wife... Brinson's children were: Barefoot, named for his grandfather Greenland's great friend (perhaps not relative), Dr. Walter Barefoote, and the only one mentioned by his grandfather in his will; Margaret, who married John Van Vliet (or Fleet); Mary, who married first, a Farnsworth, and second, Adrian Beekman; and Anne, who married William Davidson." (William H. Benedict, "The Brunson (BrinsonBrynson) Family," Somerset County Historical Quarterly, [Vol. III] [1914]) "Barefoot BRINSON, b. 1686; d. NJ 1748/49; m. MARRITJE LAURENCE, dau. of Lawrenze Popinga and Catherine Lewis; earliest known sheriff of Somerset Co. acting perhaps from 1711 to 1730." (SCHQ) As posted within http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~streeter/brinson.pdf See also http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~streeter/greenland.pdf Mary (Barford?) Greenland may have been related to Dr. Walter Barford but I doubt that she was his daughter as often claimed. It seems more likely that she was of the same generation Walter since he was such a great friend of her husband, Dr. Henry Greenland. Good luck with your research, Perry www.perry.streeter.com -----Original Message----- From: KATHIE KIRKPATRICK [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2008 9:57 PM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] 3 Asher SMITHs (esp. ca. 1805-1880+); Bethlehem & Union Townships Hi Perry, It's nice to see your messages on the email once more as our family lines again criss-cross. I was wondering if you had encountered any Curtis/Smith marriages in your research to date. When last we visited, you had not. However, some time has passed and I'm sure you have covered much more ground by now. I am still looking for Elizabeth Smith b.+/- 1776. She and David Curtis were living in Hunterdon Co.,NJ by 1804. I cannot link either of them to earlier lines. I have read a document re: Barefoot Smith of NJ. Barefoot whose property ajoined that of David Curtis Sr. in Clover Hill, NJ, left property to Elizabeth Smith and Mary, his daughter. Clover Hill is located on the line between Hunterdon and Somerset counties. The properties of Barefoot and David were close to the yard of the local Dutch Reform Church. Do you know anything about this family? I have located Barefoot in Ill. but no one seems to have any record of his parents or siblings. I am hoping that you will be able to help me as you have in the past with the Williamson family. Thank you so much for your time, Kathie
