    3. A Jonathan Pettit is shown as owning 100 acres south of what is now Frenchtown, NJ, on "Hammond Map" F, one of a series of property maps compiled in 1968 from 18th-century land records by D. Stanton Hammond. Hammond's source is "Burl. M.1-p. 183" which seems to refer to the Burlington County mortgage books, so the land would have been owned before 1715, when Hunterdon County was separated off from Burlington County. There is no reference to Richard London in any of the maps of this series. There is also no indication of whether Richard Pettit ever actually lived on this land Leslie Moore Reference Librarian Hunterdon County Library ________________________________ From: [email protected] on behalf of Kimberly Hurst UE Sent: Sun 3/9/2008 1:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] TRYING TO LOCATE LONDON FAMILY Hi Pat, I haven't found any old maps that would show where he was located. 2. You are very welcome. Hope some of this may help out a little. I do inquire too on other surnames, if I know that they may have been related in some way, and does help a little to track them for a time to see if there are any lateral and or horizontal links. On one of the databases on rootsweb.com that has residents and or those that passed through Hunterdon Co. NJ, named fredericlathrop. On it he has 94 entries for surname PETTIT. Have you checked that one out, to see if there may be a connection of your PETTIT query?? On it is listed Isaac MILLS B: 1696-1767 and Hannah MILLER, son of Timothy MILLS and Elizabeth. Isaac and Hannah were the parents of William F MILLS and Elizabeth BOCKHOVEN of Morris Co. NJ. Living next door to William and Elizabeth I found an Emaline MILLS, her niece Carrie PIERSON. Later I found another Emeline/Emaline MILLS who married Seely COMPTON. And there were SEELY and MILLS and COMPTON other marriages of Keansburg, NJ. This MILLS family is part and parcel of my own MILLS family, branches, that is. So was also surprised to find them on the Hunterdon Co. NJ database as being either resident and or passed through at some time. It may be that some of the families listed on this string/thread also traveled the same trails of New Jersey, and on beyond. It all depended on their, not only religious convictions, but also their political ones too. Land quality, availability, etc probably all played into their movements. 2. I have to clarify and amplify my previous email. It seems that the WHOLE of what is now Warren County was first part of Hunterdon (1713/14---1738/39), then part of Morris Co. (1738/39---1753), then part of Sussex County (starting 1753) and then finally in Nov. 1824, became part of the new Warren Co. which was at that time set off from Sussex Co. 1. Re: [NJHUNTER] The London Family
    2. This little tidbit from the Warren County, NJ GenWeb site: Warren county was originally part of West Jersey. It was included in Hunterdon when that county was erected in 1713-14 and remained a part of it till Morris was set off in 1738-39.[emphasis mine--kay] It was a part of the territory of Sussex county when that county was erected in 1753 and so remained till the Legislative enactment of November 20, 1824, made a separate county of it. So the London family may well have been in that part of Hunterdon County which later became Sussex County and then Warren County. It is amazing how many times it seems our ancestors changed their addresses without ever really moving. Kay Larsen **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. 2. I did a search for this couple. Also found an additional tid bit, re John READING, a large land holder. He made a land entry in his diary dated 5 26 1749 made a deed for land to Jonathan PETTIT. Interesting. Pat cw In a message dated 3/3/2008 2:59:23 P.M. 2. Have you checked for any maps, etc, from one of the other New Jersey LISTS. I think it has midatlantic in the web addy. Possibly one of those maps might show names of owners of land in and around the counties of which you are in search?? Again do not know, But worth a shot. 2. In briefly looking on the _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) it does show a Jonathan PETTIT, of NJ, who dies in Bucks Co, PA, after the dates of your listing. And others of that same family are found in Grimsby, ONT CAN. So it might be that it is a related family of your PETTIT who were associated with Richard LONDON, in 1742. DO NOT KNOW, and not sure if this is really of any assistance. Pat cw In a message dated 3/3/2008 11:25:59 A.M.
