PLUM married also to surname of CRANE - TOMPKINS - DICKINSON - LINDSLEY - WILLIAMS in New Jersey, in and around Essex and Morris counties too. Thanks! Once school is out in May I hope to go to New Jersey to do some genealogical research. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Hiram Deats estimated that perhaps only half of the marriages performed ever got recorded in county or state archives. The County Library also has eight microfilm reels, "Marriage licenses (bonds), 1711-1797" issued by the NJ State Archives. Sharon, Thanks for the suggestion to check the New Jersey archives online for the late 1820s (probably 1828) marriage of my Hunterdon County ancestors Aaron STRIMPLE and Keziah STOUT. I had not thought to look there. All, This evening I went to the New Jersey State Archives web site, in particular to http://www.state.nj.us/state/darm/links/databases.html My complication is that this site gives indexes to marriages between 1666 and 1799 and between 1848 and 1867, and the marriage record I'm seeking is for about 1828. However, http://www.state.nj.us/state/darm/links/webcat/queries/cxxmarri.html says that there are 10 reels of microfilms of Hunterdon County marriage records for 1795-1900 "organized by surname of officiant." Since I clicked on a link at https://wwwnet1.state.nj.us/DOS/Admin/ArchivesDBPortal/Marriage1867.aspx to get to this page, and it says "Our County Marriage Records catalog page has information about county marriage records held at the State Archives." I assume the microfilms are available for viewing in Trenton. I don't know whether copies of these microfilms are available anywhere in Hunterdon County. I've also checked this evening "Hunterdon County, New Jersey Marriages, 1795-1875" at Ancestry.com (as far as I can go without a subscription). I found a couple of Strimple marriages that I recognized as those of relatives, but not the Strimple-Stout marriage I'm looking for. This particular database is apparently based on a 1915-1918 series in the Hunterdon County Democrat newspaper that was published in a 1986 book "Marriage Records of Hunterdon County, New Jersey, 1795-1875" by Hiram E. Deats. (And, my notes say I searched this book a few years ago.) In 2005 Marfy Goodspeed told me that the Genealogical Magazine of NJ (vol 72 no 3 pg 136) lists the marriage of Aaron Strimple's parents, John Strimple and Elizabeth Pettit. I admit that I have not yet looked at this article (but hope to get a copy in a couple of months when I visit a library that has this publication). In the past I've had success with finding documentation of marriages in the GSNJ's Bible and Family Records collection housed at Rutgers but I haven't been able to find anything related to the marriage of Aaron Strimple and Keziah Stout using the online index at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~njgsnj/collectionguide.html (Keziah's birth is listed in Bible 2853.) I've hoped to find estate papers for the father of Keziah Stout, Samuel Stout (1779-bef 1846), in hopes of finding a reference to "my daughter Keziah Strimple" or similar but so far have not succeeded. (The Hunterdon Gazette 25 February 1846 says that Letitia Stout "wife of Samuel Stout, deceased" died in Sergeantsville 25 February 1846.) I believe if you go to the NJ archives online you will find marriage listings and you might find the marriage there, I forget the exact years but I think it might cover you date range. Also if you go to ancestry, even without a subscription they may have the just the basic marriage data which will allow you to at least know the date not more. Be careful and use soundex or alternate name spellings because there are many, many mistakes in the data. You did not mention whether or not these GARRISON - SWAYZE families might be related to the MILLS - GARRISON of John and Rebecca who married 12 11 1794 in Cumberland Co. NJ, per chance?? Am interested to find who were Rebecca's family of MILLS. On the other posting to the GARRISON.txt, did show that the will of Duncan OLIPHANT, referenced his friend John READING, trustee, Duncan's will of 1732 and proved 1734. Are these also related families to the other, Robert S GARRISON who married Rachel EWING FITHIAN, that I eluded too in prior emails to the LIST. Since then, did receive back an email from one of the descendants of the John GARRISON - Rebecca MILLS family, who let me know that John wrote his own autobiography and that Robert S GARRISON was not one of their children. So it would appear that Robert S GARRISON with parents of John and Rebecca GARRISON, are not the same as the above. Does anyone know what that Rebecca's surname might have been?? Thank you all so much. Pat cw I apologize most heartily, if I caused any confusion with any of my previous postings. In haste, I wished to find a family of MILLS for Rebecca. Perry -----Original Message----- From: Perry Streeter [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, April 23, 2004 8:43 PM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: John GARRISON, d. 1854 Hope Township, Warren Co.: Son of John of Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon Co.? One of my helpful correspondents, Marshall Lake, recently wrote to me: "I found the following in a newspaper local to Warren County, NJ. I'm afraid I don't know the name of the newspaper. If you can tie this John GARRISON into what you have I'd like to hear about it. '13 Feb 1854 John Garrison, of Hope township, aged 72 years, found dead in road near residence of Peter Burge, having died from cramps, to which he was subject.'" Dying @ age 72 in 1854, John was born about 1782. Therefore, he may be identical with the probable son of John & Mary (BARBER) GARRISON of Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon Co., NJ who resided in Warren Co. and appears at the end of my document... http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~streeter/GARRISON.TXT Any further information on the John GARRISON who d. in Hope Township in 1854 would be greatly appreciated. Of course, a death record or more extensive obituary would be ideal. Thanks for your help, Perry
