    1. Re: [NJHUNTER] Shannock Meeting House
    2. In checking "Hunterdon County Place Names", by Phyllis B. D'Autrechey, the only thing I come up with is the name Shannock River, which she says is actually the Neshanic River. When you look up Neshanic River, it reads: "This is one of the principal streams of East Amwell Township. The First Neshanic rises west of Flemington and flows in a southerly direction where it is joined by the Second Neshanic which begins near Harmony School Road. The Third Neshanic has its beginning near Sand Brook. It then flows into the other branches near Copper Hill. The three there form the larger Neshanic River whichcrosses into Somerset County south of Clover Hill after being joined by the Back Brook. (RR 1:15; Snell: 351) So Shannock Meeting House might have been a church or meeting house somewhere along the Neshanic River or one of the three branches. But no guarantees. 2. Does anyone know where Shannock Meeting House is located? It is listed as the location of death in an obituary in 1845 in the Hunterdon Gazette. The only one I come up with when I "google" is in Virginia. Wouldn't the newspaper have added the state of Virginia to the location if it were not local? Thanks for any help. 3. The time frame for my George Duckworth is probably about 1770-1857. He quite possibly died earlier than 1857; perhaps Elizabeth died then, leaving the estate to be partitioned. Thanks so much for all of the help. I do have Duckworth's that ended up in Iowa, so I will check out that information as well. >From Hunterdon County Partitions of Estates County Clerk Book 1: "George Duckworth, dec'd. of Bethlehem Tp. The petitioner, Philip Duckworth. Other heirs, Jane, wife of George Cammeron, John Duckworth, Frederick Duckworth, Else, wife of Peter Oakes, Mary the wife of Charles Leonard, Philip and George Duckworth. Sale ordered. Recorded 11th Dec. 1857. Bk I p. 421" So clearly George had died by 1857. Daughter Mary was born in 1806--so I imagine George was born in the 1770's or 1780's but I haven't been able to track that down yet. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2008 11:58 AM Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] Duckworth/Bellesfelt/Bellis - also saw as BELLESFELD > Yes, my thoughts too. 2. Yes, my thoughts too. Would like to know your time frame for your DUCKWORTH surname. Also found recently, not sure how it relates to your surname of DUCKWORTH. Thomas DUCKWORTH married 1883 Mary Ann MILLS, dau of Samuel MILLS and Elizabeth HOOVER of North Carolina and Tippecanoe, IN. Enoch T DUCKWORTH of Iowa, married 1869 to Syrilda Jane MILLS dau of William MILLS and Rhoda Delilah LAWSON of Tennessee and Putnam County, Missouri. No, I do not know if these two MILLS families are related to one another. Nor, do I know if the two DUCKWORTH families are related either. Just happened across these entries, and wished to share. 3. Hello Listmates, I have found an Abraham LaRue (1711 - 1790) Hunterdon, NJ - Augusta, VA. He married Cib Lambert (1713-1779), married in the Netherlands. One of their children was Peter Oller (1716-1778). Does anyone know if this is the same Peter Aller who married Anna Elizabeth Kaes (Case)? If so, why the name change? I also have Peter Aller, married to Anna Kaes listed as the son of Petrus Alert and Maria Alt. Are these two separate Peters? Has anyone tried to unravel this mystery. 3. Marshall, Thank you very much for the detailed information you provided. Aller is a spelling variant of Oler. My 5th great grandfather was Phillip Oler, and I am on a quest to locate his parents. My Philip named his first son Peter and his second son John. I descend from John. This family lived in Baltimore, Maryland. Philip first appeared in Baltimore in 1798 where he is listed on the tax records and the voter registration book. Prior to coming to Baltimore, I believe he was living in Frederick County, Maryland. Again, thank you. Schneider <[email protected]> Peter is the son of Petrus Alert (born in about 1680 in Germany) and Maria Alt (born in about 1680 in Westfalen, Preussen, Germany). I'm not sure where I got the childrens' names but I have: i. Peter, born December 26, 1756 in Amwell Township, married Elizabeth ------, died in 1792. Peter may have married Anna HOPPOCK about 1781 in Hunterdon County, and may have had a son named William who married Mary DALRYMPLE (daughter of Jesse DALRYMPLE and Ester KITCHEN) October 10, 1810 in Baptistown, Hunterdon County. ii. John, married Keziah ------, died in June of 1817. iii. Philip. iv. Catherine. v. Elizabeth. vi. Mary. vii. Anna Barbara, married John Harbert COOL/KUHL, had children. viii. Rebecca. ix. Rachel. x. Sarah. -- Marshall Lake -- [email protected] -- http://mlake.net
