In both German and Irish the given name and name used may or may not be the same. In both countries often the first name had a religious basis and the middle name was the given name. However, my father's name did not appear on his birth certificate and my grandmother used a nickname of her given name. Have fun in the name research area. Hi Donald: I never heard of that in the Irish names, since I am Irish, this is quite a surprise. Maybe that is why I can't find my other G-Grandmother. Food for thought. Thank you for the tip.
