    3. Hi, I am looking for any "online sources" and suggestions on how to find results on several family searches (as I am out of state). I do have a subscription to Ancestry.com so I have searched the census records etc. to no avail. I also searched the LDS websites and other places. First, my great-grandfather :-) I appreciate any help in advance. I am seeking details (date of death, place of burial, death certificate, birth certificate) on my great-grandfather Oscar Winkelmann (born in NY City 1866 /moved to Brooklyn) who then lived in North Bergen and Hoboken. He first appears on the 1870 NY census (misspelled as Oscar Inkelmann). The 1900 NJ census shows him on Willow Avenue in Hoboken. He is listed as being married for 2 years at this point with 1 son, Oscar Jr. (Oscar Jr. had a son Oscar born in 1928, so there are around 3 or 4 Oscars in total). I know his wife, Anna Herben Winkelmann (listed incorrectly as Annie on census) died 11/4/1906. She is buried at Fairview Cemetery with my grandfather, her son Bernardo (but Oscar is not there). In the 1910 census, Oscar he is at 70 River Street in North Bergen. Bernardo Herben Winkelmann (my grandfather) appears on this 1910 census, as well as Oscar Jr. and the elderly mother, Bertha Winkelmann. A family rumor said Oscar took his children "upstate to Middletown NY" near relatives, after his wife died. I did find a Middletown newspaper mention of an Oscar Winkleman (misspelled) who was entering Middletown High School in 1917. This is likely Oscar Jr. However, no other mention of Oscar the senior can be found! No other Middletown relatives seem to exist. My grandfather, Bernardo, is next listed as a lodger at a home in Jersey City in 1920. His brother, Oscar Jr. is shown as living with their "Uncle" Charles Winkelmann in North Bergen (1518 Jefferson Street) in the 1920 Census. Nothing else appears for Oscar, anywhere. Not in Middletown, not in NJ. Another rumor has it, that he owned property in North Bergen, but it was "let go" to not having money for taxes at his death. However, no "bill of sale" ever exchanged hands with the builder who built on it (he just paid the taxes or something). It is my assumption that Oscar died between 1917 and 1920 likely in North Bergen -- but how do I find out? Supposedly he left this property to his grandchildren, but not to my grandmother Alice (Bernardo's widow). Any assistance locally would be much appreciated.

    3. The NJ archives in Trenton have BMD's http://www.state.nj.us/state/darm/. You will need some one on the list who is local to do a look up. I suggest you post a request. You could write the states vital stats but that takes forever. Also the archive has wills through 1952.
