    3. Interesting about this Varick. I lived on Montgomery St between Varick and Monmouth St's. Would this have been named after your Varick line? Also where is this Speer Cemetery located? Trying to find if any of my Carley/Dunn/Carroll/McCormick line may have been buried in this cemetery? Thanks again for your posting. 3. Hi, Justine, Speer Cemetery is on Vroom Street in Jersey City. Bob Murgittroyd is the person to ask concerning the history of the cemetery - he has been stufying it for a number of years. There are two distinct Varick families in Jersey City - and I have so far not been able to find any connection. The street is definitely not named after 'my' Varick line (John James Varick was a blacksmith). The street was either named after Richard Varick (the first mayor of New York City after the Revolution and one of the founders of Jersey City) or possibly after his nephew Dr. Theodore Varick who was the Surgeon General of New Jersey at one time. Please email me at tallygators@earthlink.net.
