Bob is indeed the person to contact. Speer Cemetery is at the corner of Vroom Street and Bergen Avenue (sort of) in Jersey City. There is an old book "Old Burial Grounds of New Jersey, A Guide" - Janice Kohl Sarapin - that has a write up on Speer Cemetery on pages 59 through 63. Unfortunately when I copied those pages I forgot to copy the information concerning date of publication. If you will contact me privately at tallygators@earthlink.net perhaps I can add a little more. I have copies of newspaper articles as far back as 1974 concerning plans to "restore" Speer Cemetery (including a letter to the editor by my three sons ages seven to 13). I have an article "The Story of Speer Cemetery" by William Kavanagh (copyrighted 1971) which starts: "When the Jersey City Parking Authority announced its intention of converting a small, historic cemetery into a parking lot, a group of citizens were aroused to stop it. Arrayed against them and the cemetery were: the Chamber of Commerce, a college President, two claegymen, the Parking Authority, the Editor of one local paper, the police chief, the local political organization and an enthusiastic band of area merchants who had contributed $2,500 towards the preliminary legal costs of condemnation. . . .
