    3. It seems Ruth B. Coutts, 97, is still alive in San Diego. Also Morristown, NJ, listed as an address. Perhaps it is a dwelling that he designed or built, not necessarily his residence. Marge, please keep us posted... we're counting on you! Briggs came to the United States in the late 1800's. He was a native of Accrington, near Lancashire in northern England. Briggs didn't become a US citizen until about 1906. He went to work for Louis Comfort Tiffany as a young man, and rose as a star employee. After the death of Tiffany in 1933, Briggs sent a large collection of Tiffany glass back to his native village of Accrington. As far as I can glean from the Internet, the collection is still held there in a local museum. Briggs' primary residence was Wood-Ridge, Bergen County. I would like to learn more about his personal life, including his place of burial. To that end, I may order his death record from New York. The following obituary is that of his son, Joseph Ashworth Briggs II., that you may find interesting. Deceased Name: JOSEPH A. BRIGGS II GLOUCESTER - The Rev. Joseph A. Briggs II, 81, passed to a better life at 9:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 1996. He was a native of Wood-Ridge, N.J. He lived in Virginia most of his adult life. He was a band leader in New Jersey, a school teacher, a crop duster and worked for Louis Comfort Tiffany in New York City. Among many other things, he was an organist for his church in Norfolk. In the 1950s, he started his own airport just outside of Great Bridge, Va. In 1968, he bought a home in Balls Neck, Va., and became a police officer in Kilmarnock, Va. He was one of the oldest people to graduate from Tidewater Police Academy. In 1972, he bought a home in Deltaville, Va., and worked as a police officer in West Point. He moved to West Point with his son of the same name on Second Street in West Point. He then moved to Hudgins, Va., where he met Kathryn Thomas in a grocery store in Gloucester Court House and married her. They had more than 20 happy years together. They were owners and operators of Courtesy Cab of Gloucester. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Thomas Briggs of Gloucester; one daughter, Alice Evelyn Briggs; one son, Joseph A. Briggs III of Mathews; one grandchild; and one sister, Ruth B. Coutts of San Diego, Calif. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ware Episcopal Church by the Rev. Daniel O. Worthington Jr. Burial will be at a later date in Delawanna, N.J. Memorials may be made to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
