Hi all, I have hit a brick wall in my search for my g-grandfather, Peter Lyons.? He came on the ship Neptune arriving on May 19, 1864.? He was 16 years old at the time.? He was naturalized in Jersey City in 1868 and his naturalization papers were signed by a Charles Lyons. I went to the Jersey City Library and found him listed in the 1867 directory as a laborer for Charles Lyons, junk dealer, at the corner of Bay & Prospect.? He is not listed in the 1869 - 1871 directories, which leaves me at a dsead end.? Charles is listed in the 1870 directory as a laborer living at 342 S. 8th St. His wife, Ellen Christie Lyons, records her son's birth (my grandfather, Thomas Lyons) as Nov. 6, 1875 in Jersey City. My question is, could parts of Jersey City been broken up into other cities around that time so that marriages and births would be listed in another municipality which, at the time, was considered Jersey City? Any help would be greatly appreciated.? Until I can locate him & any possible family members in NJ, I can't find out anything about where they came from in Ireland. Thanks, Betty Pruzinsky
