    1. [NJHUDSON] Jersey City Streets1880 Census
    2. I have been unable to find my grandmother's family listed on the 1880 Census. However I have just discovered that the family may have lived at 445 York Street in Jersey City. The 1880 Census has the names of streets in the left margin. Does anyone have a family member kisted in the 1880 Census who lived on York Street in Jersey City? If I can find the correct pages in the 1880 Census for York Street I can then check to see who was living at #445 to see if the census-taker misspelled the family's name. Also does anyone know what Roman Catholic Church would have been the closest to York Street in the 1880's? I'm also curious to know if there's still a house at 445 York Street. I came across current real estate listings and pictures of old brownstones at 209 York and 328 York. It appears to be an historic area in Jersey City called Van Vorst Park. ************** Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos. 3. If you go to zillow.com you may be able to find this address if you know the general area of Jersey City. This will be an aerial view of the city. York Street did not come up - only New York Ave. But if you know the general location I believe you can find it. 3. Doing a google search of that address. The satellite photo shows no houses at that location. There appears to be apartments across the street. 3. It could be that the street names and/or house numbers have changed. My family came from Union City and the post office was able to help me with conversions of street names and house numbers -- and these changed as a result of town consolidations and further town divisions in 1925. In some cases the number was only a slight change. ----- Original Message ----- From: <NPronovich@aol.com> To: <NJHUDSON@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 21, 2008 9:01 PM Subject: [NJHUDSON] Jersey City Streets1880 Census I have been unable to find my grandmother's family listed on the 1880 Census. 3. The closest church would have been St. Bridget's (only a couple of blocks away). The building at that address in 1880 is no longer there. At that time there wasn't much on that block, and the Mill Creek still ran nearby. 3. My father was born at 364 York Vincent J. McCormick 1897. His daughter (me) b-1928 was 'christened in St. Bridget's, schooled and married 1948. My uncle attended St. Bridget's and born in 1899. I have a census record of 1900 on York St. I visited St. Bridget's about 15 years ago and was not in good shape. It has combined with 3 churches since then.
