I thought the same thing for my GGM immigrating from Poland. I initially checked Hudson County records and confirmed she was listed on my GGF records. Then someone recommend that I do a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request to the district. The more information you can supply them the better your chances. I got lucky and received photocopies of some records with photos. US INS Newark District Office Attn: FOIA Unit 970 Broad Street Newark, NJ 07102 To whom it may concern; I am writing this letter to request information under the Freedom of Information Act. I am looking to obtain the immigration records related to my great grandmother listed below: LAST NAME: FIRST NAME: DATE OF BIRTH: PLACE OF BIRTH: IMMIGRATED: DATE OF DEATH: PLACE OF DEATH: NATURALIZED: The more information you can supply them the better your chance. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f 6d1a/?vgnextchannel=34139c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextoid=34139 c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD -----Original Message----- From: njhudson-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:njhudson-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Jeanne Thomas Sent: Monday, April 20, 2009 8:25 PM To: njhudson@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NJHUDSON] Documents w/ Persons Description on it? When I was searching for naturalization info about my GGM, I recall being advised that a woman would not have naturalization records of her own, as her citizenship would have come through her husband at the time of marriage. Is this information incorrect?
