I have the 1920 census for my grandmother and her parents. At the time they were living in Union City. On the soundex card the address is listed as 333 Fifth and the city just as Union. This is the same as her married brother who lived next door. Hope this helps, Susan ----- Original Message ----- From: Theresa Long <tglong98@yahoo.com> To: <NJHUDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 10, 2000 10:49 PM Subject: [NJHUDSON-L] Union city on census > Would Union City be listed in the 1920 census for > Jersey City as Union Town? Please be aware that after the incorp of Union City in 1925, many of the street names changed. The Union City post office has a book with the transformations -- it was printed by the Hudson Dispatch in 1940. I was lucky to find someone at the post office who found it in their basement and gave me a call back with the new addresses -- it is mostly street names as opposed to house numbers. This also affected other towns as well such as Weehawken. I then also found someone here who told me that all the West New York and North Bergen street names eventually changed as well and you added 44 to the original number -- so 10th street in West New York became 54th street. This did not occur immediately in 1925 for even Union City.
