My grandmother, Julia Andes, who lived on Grace St. in Secaucus until her death in 1964 was supposedly the first woman elected to the Hudson County School Board (or maybe it was the Secaucus School Board) according to her obituary when she died. I have tried writing to the Jersey Journal -- no response both times. I have even called them long distance twice with a promise that someone will get back to me. She moved to Secaucus with her family in 1906. She had 2 children after that until 1911. I am assuming she sat on the school board once her children were older and once woman were given the right to vote. So maybe all this occurred in the 30s or 40s. Does anyone have any suggestion as to where I can get this newspaper article about her being elected. I would love to know if it listed where she was born in Ireland. This is my brick wall!!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Judy in No. Carolina
