I need to ask this question again with more information. Not all of the people who were enumerated on the 1880 Federal Census are listed on the Soundex. I believe that only families with children under a certain age were listed on the Soundex. The person I seek on that census was about 65 years old in 1880 and all of his children were adults. An unmarried daughter aged 34 may have lived with him. In any case, the person I am seeking was not listed on Soundex - that is the first place I looked. I found him on the census of 1850, 1860, and 1870 in the 4th Ward of Jersey City. His obituary in 1884 indicates that he lived in Jersey City continuously for 50 years. It also stated that he had been an alderman 1854-1856 in the "old" 4th Ward. This implies that the ward boundaries may have changed and that his address may not have been in that ward any longer. His address was 273 Second Street, Jersey City. Does anyone know what enumeration district that would be in for the 1880 census?
