My gggrandfather, Richard R. Rappleyea (1814-1884), was one of the originators of the Fireman's Exempt Association of Jersey City. He was a carpenter by profession but belonged to the volunteer fire department and was foreman of the Hercules Engine. I found this out from his obit. Would you be able to get info about him?
