I don't know if anyone is interested but here is a report of a church fire today. Jersey City, NJ, April 10 -- A fast-moving fire destroyed an 80-year-old church early Tuesday, hours before a funeral was scheduled to be held there. The four-alarm blaze at Clair Memorial United Methodist Church spread to an adjacent three-story apartment building, which also houses two smaller churches. The fire also damaged a two-story home. No injuries were reported, said Steven McGill, the city's assistant fire director. The fire began at about 5:30 a.m. in the church and quickly spread through the building, causing the roof to collapse. The Rev. James Terry, the church's pastor who lives near the church, said police alerted him to the fire shortly after it was reported. After Terry and his 13-year-old daughter fled the home with her dog, he went to assess the damage. Terry said a funeral was scheduled to be held at the church Tuesday morning, and the body was still inside the church. About 95 firefighters were battling the fires early Tuesday, hosing down nearby buildings in an attempt to keep the blaze from spreading even further. Arson investigators were at the scene, but a cause had not yet been determined. -- Judy Lamken, Kilkee Kerries Hoffman Estates, IL mailto:kilkee@mediaone.net
