I received a death certificate for James F. CASEY, 321 Mountain Road, West Hoboken, NJ, who died on August 7, 1902. Currently I am at a "dead end" and would appreciate any suggestions as to how to proceed from here. Here are the paths I have taken: 1. Tried to find his birth certificate. It shows he was 52 at death, and born in NYC, son of Thomas and Mary CASEY, who were born in Ireland. Thus I tried to get James's birth certificate from NYC, but they said they are unable to do it, because the birth records from 1850 are not available. Dead end #1 2. Tried to find his obituary. Went to the Jersey City library (also had Bob Murgitroyd try to find it), and could not find his obit around any of the days he died in the Jersey Journal. Also tried the Hudson Dispatch, but the library was missing those microfilm files for those dates for the Hudson Dispatch. Dead end #2. 3. Worked on the cemetary where he was buried. Found out the plot was purchased by a "Thomas CASEY" in 1869 when (presumeably James's sister) died in 1869. However, there was no Thomas CASEY buried there. Found out that Thomas CASEY (from a NYC directory) lived on 130 Ninth Ave, NYC in 1869. Found the closest Catholic Church to that address, wrote to them (with a donation) asking for any data they have on the CASEY family. They cashed the check, but have received nothing. Dead end #3. 4. Posted a request for a lookup on the census for Thomas CASEY for 1870 on several "look up the census" in NYC for 130 Ninth Ave. No responses. Dead end #4. 5. When I get to a big town library (I live in Florida with little or no access to Census records, unless I go to Orlando, which is about 60 miles from here), I will continue with the census work for the CASEY name. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Tom Novak
