Fellow listers, I spent several hours looking at LDS microfilms of the books from St. Augustine,and St. Mary's/St. Michaels/St.Josephs. First of general interest, the following handwritten inscription was found in front of one St. Michaels book: "Original name was St Mary's Church of West Hoboken, Jersey City, New Jersey. Then St. Michael's Church combined with St. Joseph's Church in 1982." In front of the book entitled :"St. Michael Church, Union City Marriages 1865-1877" It was written: "For year 1861 see small book 'Baptisms and Marriages.' For previous Baptisms and Marriages consult records kept at Our Lady of Grace, Hoboken. Fr. Coririn (sp?) took records to Hoboken when he was transfered his residence to Hoboken." I will post the information I found according to surname on individual posts so they register as separate entries in case one does a future archival search of this mailing list. The surname is listed and then the results. Most of the twentieth century church records have an index of surnames and I note whether I found the surname listed or not. If I did not find anything and you are fairly sure your record is in one of those books e-mail me and I will try again, but give me at least the decade you believe I can find it. Finally, don't worry because I've ordered some more church films from Union City and I'll keep you up to date on when I have them and for how long. I'm still looking for my family. Have fun!
